Motor disconnect

Post by chadwiseman »

I can decouple the motor with it raised, which does make it much easier on the wheel while sailing. Just curious if anyone has an easy way to secure the motor when decoupled so it doesn't flow from side to side as the boat heals. Anyone put two cables one to each cleat?

How do you decouple?
I bought and use the system just posted.
It is designed so you transfer the push bar from the steering to the static post provided in the kit.
This holds the motor still.
If you have a large motor like mine (120 hp v4) I suggest you decouple while the motor is down, then raise it, otherwise you are wrestling the beast.

Excellent point. I always decouple before tilting the motor up.

I would add, decouple while the motor is out of gear or off (or make a video if you choose otherwise).
