Solo Mac26 ($2k) Crossing from Florida to Bahamas

Post by OverEasy »

Hi All

Interesting video of a character who bought a Mac26M, bought a used engine and converted it to Trawler Mode Configuration all for about $2000 bucks then crossed over from Florida to the Bahamas alone!

(Seems some folks will do almost anything to leave Florida lately :D :D…)

Cool video. Thanks for posting.

Here’s another one. This dude has a lot of 26M sailing videos on his channel.

DrMarCo (Mark Coleman) is a member here.

Contrast the planning DrMarCo put into his crossing vs the reality TV feeling of the first video.

I suspect the $2K Mac was better prepared than they purported to be. By my estimate, he was carrying 33 gallons of fuel. That is 3 hours at WOT on his engine, assuming it was running like new. His GPS shows he is 2.6 hours from his destination after an unknown time underway. That's not much of a safety margin on his fuel even for the perfect conditions he was in. He's entertaining for sure, but I don't think we saw the whole story.

His view of the Gulf Stream 19 miles out is pretty impressive - much calmer than what I'm used to on Lake Michigan 8)

That guy is quite entertaining. Shows how versatile the Mac is.

Those were just about ideal conditions for a crossing under power. I've crossed the Gulf Stream a few times (not in a Mac) but never seen it that calm. I have to give him top points for picking his date.
