I had a jack plate installed several years ago to get my prop at the optimum depth. It also adds some lateral distance between the stern and the engine which helps with clearance of the captain's seat.

Hi Herschel!

Nice! :)

Q 1:
How did you do the adjustment of the engine height?
(Is there some sort of screw thingy to crank on with a wrench?)

Q 2:
What is the criteria for determining at what height to set the engine?

Q 3:
While it works for your installation, do you know the shaft length of your engine?

Thanks!

Best Regards

Thanks for asking. 8)
Q1: The jack plate is bolted to the transom. The engine is bolted to the jack plate and can be adjusted for optimum placement/height from the water.
Q2: My marine tech advised that the cavitation plate, when on a full plane, should be skimming along the surface of the water.
Q3: No. I don't know the measurement of the shaft length. It is a 2013 Yamaha 50 hp HT engine generally designed for pontoon boats. My speculation is that it is around 20". I'll try to take a measurement when I go up to the marina next time.

Yes, I can confirm that my 2013 Yamaha 4-stroke, fuel injected T50TLR model has a 20-inch shaft length. From my documents/manuals that seems to be the only shaft length that that hp/model engine came in. My efforts to physically measure it today were muffed because I became confused about how to measure it, having read two different methods and forgotten the details of either one and fear of falling into the water while bent over the lower unit! :| I plead ignorance due to preoccupation with just getting the Admiral and I out on the water! :P Which I did! 8) Nonetheless, I hope this helps.
