Anyone Fitted an Air Head Composting Toilet to an M26?

Post by Sea Shadow »

A bit of a shout out to the vast reservoir of knowledge on here. I have been using a porta pottie as the head. However, I am interested in fitting an Air Head Composting Toilet. Has anyone done this before and are there any pitfalls. I would appreciate any help. My boat is a M26 (2011) model.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

They work good.. but if anyone pee's in the wrong location.. a TOTAL MESS.
(had one person I know with one.. loved it .. worked great.. had friends over.. for beers.. peed in the wrong "location" made the coconut mulch (or what ever) all wet.. total disaster)

If used correctly, most people love it.

I have a mine fixed with a pump out and vent. (free pump outs at my marina.. so I like that setup)

Any chance of photos of your fit out. Did it fit ok in the area provided? Bit worried about ordering one from the US and it not fitting.

I have no compost toilet.. just a 5gallon with pumpout.
There is a KIT for the toilet in my 26M that allows you to pump out.
The prev. owner installed it.
Only prob is that the discharge hose interferes a bit with the toilet lid.. have to "pin it down" better.
The vent hose is no issues..

I will get photos tonight when I head off to the boat if you like.
If you do not do LONG trips in your MAC, I would not bother with a composting Toilet (IMHO)
If you have to pay $$$$$ for a pump out.. it may be worth it.. for me.. its free at my marina... so no issues..
I will leave it as is with a mod'ed porta poty.. (for pump out)

(anyone even just take a pee.. I pump out on the way to my slip.)

2004 26M :macm: Installed Airhead in 2015.
Left the vent open in bad seas and sea water went in ruined the fan and got in the airhead. Had to replace the coco coir and fan. Good to carry extra replacements. Now I close vent while traveling.

Have a Nature's Head. Fitted in front of the "bench" for head room (no pun intended). Had to remove the door and replace w a curtain that crosses over to the port side, totally eliminating claustrophobia. Vent is just above the gunnel behind w a downward facing fitting. Have not had any intrusion of water even in heavy seas. 11 years of use, very happy. I preload peat moss into coffee cups w/ lids to add after each use.

Just wondering, the photo of the Air Head, is that ahead of the raised platform or did you cut out the platform to make the floor flat?

The 2004 26M is a little different from other years. No sliding galley, wood under main cabin floor etc. The raised platform in the head is only about 6 inches wide so it is placed on the floor in front of that platform.

Thanks for that. I thought the head looked different to mine (which is a later model). Still, at this stage it looks like I will get one. If anyone else has fitted one on a late model M26, it would be nice to hear from you.
