Need to replace the centerboard line....

Once you release the nut from the hanger the board drops down, slide out the pin and then pull the board forward to the ground...easy job I have done it 3 times.

Yes...however, once you release the nut from the hanger, the bracket will NOT drop because of the 5200 adhesive. so this is where one needs to whack it a few times (as described in the instructions). once whacked, it eventually releases, thus dropping enough to remove.

If you release the support nut and drop the bracket down, won't you have room to slide out the centerboard? As long as it is connected at the swivel rod, it can not come out due to your cross piece,I agree. (Some of us have other mfg trailers without such a crosspiece.)

yes, this is what i'm talkin' 'bout. however, there's a liberal amount of 5200 adhesive that Roger MacGregor, et.al., placed inside the cavity when originally installed. thus, in order for the bracket to be removed, one must whack the top of the bolt from the inside as described in the instructions.

the reason for the confusion (i believe) is because it's been suggested by another in this thread that the CB can be dropped while on the trailer.
i say "NO WAY!" that is, the trailer was designed to keep the CB up inside the cavity while on the trailer to eliminate damage.

it's also been suggested that after the CB is dropped while on the trailer (which IMHO is not possible w/out removing the CB first), one can place a board up inside the cavity as a means of prying to release the 5200 adhesive and thus allowing bracket to be removed.
i cannot see how thus is possible, unless -of course - you don't have a Mac trailer.
if that's the case, then those of you who don't have a Mac trailer can discuss amongst yourselves...

I have dropped the CB out when on the trailer, with a 2002

If you cant do this, then either

1 you dont have the boat far enough forward on the trailer - try the Mac bump

2 Your trailer is made to a 'custom specs', which is a marketing term for bad tolerances. That will be tough to solve.

I have to second KHE. I have a stock trailer and have completely removed the centerboard with the boat on the trailer. Release the nut, pry the board loose from the 5200, allow the front to drop down and remove the board while sliding it forward (over the cross piece). Installation is the reverse. The nose of the trailer did have to be fully raised to allow the full height of the CB to clear the CB well.

I have a 2001 26X with the standard trailer and I too was able to drop the board while on the trailer. As I remember it the trailing edge of the centerboard just barely passes over the front edge of one of the carpeted supports. I would agree that if the boat had not been pulled all the way up, it wouldn't be possible to remove. In the correct position it is certainly doable.

Be careful not to mar the threads on the support bracket if you hammer on it. I ended up smacking with the nut placed at the top to protect the threads and also with a block of wood on top of that.

Hi, This looks like a good discussion on replacing the centerboard line. Does anyone have any other recommendations on this? I was buffing my boat this weekend when I hit the line with the buffer. The outer casing of the line split. The internal line is still solid, but I'm afraid it might wear pretty fast given the UV exposure.

I’ve also done it 2 times with the stock trailer. When I fixed the ovaled out hole in the center board and when I changed the wire to a rope. Check your pin. On mine I noticed little holes (kinda like mini termites ate into it) is this electrolisis? Mine has been in a marina for a few years. My hanger bolt broke at the weld when knocking it loose also. I got a new bolt with a nut and ground the nut down a bit. I plan on replacing pin and hanger soon.

I ordered the upgraded line from BWY. Dropped the centerboard. Tied the new line on. Used 5200 adhesive and stuck it back together.

No problems dropping the centerboard on the original trailer.

Since my line disintegrated, can someone tell me which side of the centerboard the line enters the hole, if it matters at all, as well as the stopper knot used. Thanks

Use a double overhand knot to secure the centreboard line. Line goes down the starboard side of the board. The port side groove of the centreboard provides adequate clearance for your knot
