Were ALL 26Xs equipped with a furler
Hi, all
A friend wants to sell a 26X, but does not know if he has a furler (don't ask...).
Were any of the 26X sold WITHOUT a furler?
I am trying to save myself a trip to his boat to check the headsail for hank-ons or a lack thereof....
Thanks in advance!
Regards
Srdjan
p.s. my own and every 26X I've seen HAD one

Re: Were ALL 26Xs equipped with a furler
The Macgregor 26 X/M did NOT come with ANY headsail at all as standard. Part of Roger's marketing and keeping the base price looking very low.
I've never seen a Mac without an optional headsail. However, what type is probably why it was an option. Hank on jib, genoa, roller furling.
Out of curiosity, why is this important?

Did he ever sail the boat?
I suppose it is possible the boat was purchased and either never used, or just to camp in.
Have a hard time believing someone actually sailed the boat and did not know the difference between pulling ropes from the cockpit, and carrying a sail to the nose and attaching each hank while someone pulled the halyard.

The "don't ask" in the original post is probably a clue...leefrankpierce wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 6:17 am Did he ever sail the boat?

But, you nailed it.

The PO of our Mac 26X at the beginning of our negotiation wasn't sure if he had main sail or not
He never sailed, only motoring

Yeah, so the boat has not been sailed at least 3, if not 5 years. And I used "sailed" loosely - it is possible that he always motored, although
someone had to attach the forestay to the hole, so that someone should know if there was a furler mounted on the forestay or not.
Owner's brother says it was never there, so this would confirm the hypothesis that the original owner did not buy the CDI option.
Thank you all for your answers : )

p.s. why is it important? He is selling the boat, and the interested party wants to know if the furler is present. I did not see it outside, attached to the mast (in down position), which is where I normally attach mine for trailering. Furthermore, no one could confirm that it was stored somewhere in the house - and that would be hard to miss, given the length...

Yes, very hard to hide in the house. When I took mine off, I would store it in the rafters of the crawl space. It was very hard to get in/out of there.richter372001 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 7:02 am Furthermore, no one could confirm that it was stored somewhere in the house - and that would be hard to miss, given the length...
