MRS stowage

Post by DaveC426913 »

I'm sure the rest of you store your MRS in a locker or shed. I stow mine onboard. I don't know why - especially for something I am guaranteed to use only twice per year, but still....

I got fed up with all the bolts and nuts getting caught on things and I'm afraid some day I'm going to rip something, so I finally decided to stow my MRS where it won't interfere.

I bought two 4 foot long by 8 inch diameter sonotubes. (Did you know sonotubes of the same diameter can nest inside each other? I suspect it's due to either magic or a tapered diameter.)

I wanted to get the 6" tubes - I think the poles will all fit - but all they had were 8".

Anyway, it needs to be juuuust over six feet long to hold the MRS pole itself and its hardware - so about 74-75". I slipped one inside the other, with about 27" exposed, and taped the seam.

So it holds:
  • the 74" mast-raising pole
  • the pedestal crutch
  • the pedestal crutch extension (custom - for clearing the bimini)
  • the baby stays
Anyway, we'll see how it holds up.

I just leave mine in the bow sleeping area. Out of sight, out of mind.

Nice idea. I take mine home. But this idea might make it easier at home as I'm always getting it tangled in stuff.

I overnight just often enough that that is unfeasible.

I assume you sleep in that area, if so, then I agree. We sleep in the aft birth. We use the forward berth for storage.
