Help with pricing the sale of my 1997 26X
My question is on what price to ask in an ad? I ran a Craigslist national search and found the following:
WA , $18.5K, 2000, 60HP Suz - good options
FL, $19.9K, 2002, 50HP Honda - good options new sails
NY, $22K, 1999, 50HP Honda - good condition
MT, $25K, 2000, 60HP Tohatsu - new motor, rigging and lots of upgrades
WA, $19K, 1997, 50HP Merc - appears average condition
IL, $11K, 1999, 50HP Merc 2-stroke, looks a bit rough in spots in pictures
Other pricing guides or guidance from this body of experts?
I'm sad selling but it has to happen and I need to get working on the ad and final cleanup and goodbyes. I know I need to get the covers off and take pictures of mine to help but in general where do I start pricing for my 1997 26X ?
Thanks,
Mountain Sailor

I don’t believe there is any Goldilocks price. There is a fourteen thousand dollar difference between the extremes. Go down the middle, ask for twenty thousand and accept eighteen. There is no right answer. This comes down to what your comfortable with, again, no right answer, just what your willing to shake hands on.

Price seems to be driven by location.
Lately, boat prices seem to be high. I don't know if that is seasonally affected. Where you are, probably not.
I'd trash those tires if they are that old, they are not safe.
When ready, place a free ad here.

Price is largely related to the value of the motor. A twenty plus year old Honda is only worth a couple, maybe five at the most, thousand. Fancy electronics add up, but the boat should come in at about 6 to 8 and the fresh water trailer maybe another grand. I would say fourteen max for yours.

Just for background my Yamaha 50 is a 1999 model.

I recently purchased a pair of these from HD for hauling our 26M from VA to TX. Not expensive and run well.

Others have recommended against radial tires. Bias seem to provide better control.

Re: Help with pricing the sale of my 1997 26X
Those prices you saw in Craigslist are asking prices, not selling prices. I just sold my 2001 X two weeks ago for $19000 (plus 2k for an almost new kicker). My X was never stored in water, I had bought a new Yamaha 70 in 2014 with few hours on in, and I had a 2010 dual axle aluminum trailer with new tires. The big price determiners are the outboard and the trailer. Your 99 carbed 50 is probably worth about $2000 as a trade-in, and the trailer maybe $1000. I'm thinking your asking price should be about $12000, and you should get one or two thousand less. But as someone else mentioned, your specific area may alter that slightly.

I believe you can always come down in price if there are no nibbles, so market the package, and price it like it's time to sell, but you hate to see your little yacht go. Remember how excited you were when you went shopping for your Mac. Visions of a water life were in your head.

I just purchased our 2002 26X for 12,000. It has a 2001/2 Honda 50 hp 4 stroke. Some cosmetic damage and in desperate need of a buff. Has done nice electronic L-dopa, but does need a few other things done
