Need to plug these holes in stern?

Post by jmillski1 »

Hello everyone, I posted on here when we first bought our boat at auction and few months later I think she is finally ready for the first sail. It’s been a fun adventure restoring the interior. When I was walking around the boat yesterday I noticed these holes in the stern that looked like there should be a holder missing for the rudder??? Do I need to plug these? I can’t find a connection on the interior. Thank you!

They are part of the rudder post seal/drain design. Leave them as-is.

While I wanna see, I can't pics don't come up for me, whether this topic or any other posts. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I'm using a Mac, in case it matters. Mods?

Gazman, Can you see this image? We're talking about the small hole just above the rudder recess. Barely visible in this pic behind rudder. I posted a hot link for forums into my post rather than using the post image button.

There's a string on these holes somewhere in the forum archives.
They are specifically configured vent holes for the rudder posts to allow pressure to bleed off and prevents water backpressure that would allow water to ingress the rudder post opening. Kinda like a plumbing vent in your house.

Try now. There was a widespread internet outage and some sites were affected. Images are hosted on postimage.
