Wiped on a layer of Helmsman and the stuff is already dry to the touch. So, a bit more sanding and varnishing before I can mount the fiddles, but at least the pace is picking up.

Re: Yet Another Galley Mod
Well, it's Wednesday afternoon and the varathane is still not hard, So, I went to the Lowes further from urban centers and got some minwax Helmsman spar urethane. I put the random orbital sander to the droopy sides and ground most of it off. Actually, it just rolled it up. No dust at all
.

Re: Yet Another Galley Mod
Finally got the fiddles mounted. Titebond ultimate on the wood-wood joints, and 100% silicone adhesive between the laminate and wood. Finish nails, and brads on the front and ends, screws in back.
I masked off the laminate to control the squeeze-out.
I'll round off the front corners where we'll be running into them, and probably the back corners, too. A little sanding, varnishing, and nail filling, then screw the back cover on, and toss it in.
Looking forward to getting it done.

So... the questions have to be asked... When will you be mass producing these galley units, how much $$$ do you charge?? Envious
owners want to know!!

Re: Yet Another Galley Mod
Not sure I want to know how many hours I have in it.
I think we need to wait and see if BOAT's prediction of capsize at first launch comes true.
I'm about ready to be finished with it, but I have enjoyed building it. It's the first thing I've done just because I wanted to do it, since I retired. Hope folks were entertained by the sausage-making.
I'm getting ahead of myself, though... It's not in the boat yet!

Can't wait to see it in the boat.
Macs sure could use some wood. I'm disappointed Roger took away the wood trim on the windows.

Thanks! Now, if I can round up a few friends in the next couple of days, we can call this part done.

Re: Yet Another Galley Mod
Didn't weigh it without the stove, but the stove and gimbal just weigh a few pounds. The complete galley is 173.2 lbs. Maybe BOAT was right. Capsize may be imminent.
Stock sliding galley is 28 lbs.
I'll be interested to see how the boat handles it.

Re: Yet Another Galley Mod
Two of my buddies came over this evening and we coaxed the galley in. We lifted it to the side of the cockpit and began moving personnel into the boat.

The test fit did not include the fiddles or the grab bar
, so, we had to stop and move the mast over a tad for clearance. That was enough to squeeze it in.

Re: Yet Another Galley Mod
Then it was just a matter of setting it in place, and getting it on the slides. I was glad I had help during the slide alignment as it didn't go easily. Top pic is in the forward position.

This pic shows the galley at the rear position. The small cushion fits nicely in front of the galley. It allows seating for two in front of the galley - but still in the dining area (not staring into the head).

Woo hoo!!
And you didn't even have to slather it with mayonnaise to send it thru the companionway!

There was a moment, before we figured out to put the throttle at full reverse and move the mast over, when we probably would have slathered it with mayo if it was nearby!

Re: Yet Another Galley Mod
Hooked up the drain line and tested it this evening. Failed
The plastic body of the lower portion has a threaded center that you screw a hollow stainless fastener into, holding the stainless portion inside the sink to the plastic portion under the sink, and theoretically compressing the rubber seal to the underside (or not - in this case). Going to have to use plumbers putty or some other sealant. Surprisingly, the hose connection to my hand-ground PVC nipple didn't leak a drop. Used a heat gun on the hose to soften it a tad so I could jam it on good.
Still mulling over the pressure water system design.
