reinforcerd rudder posts

Post by kurz »

Hello all

does anybody has changed the old smal rudder post to the reinforced heavy duty ones ( :macm: )?
I have my :macm: from 2011, and the rudder post side plates are just 3mm. The new ones shall be 5mm strong.

So: Is it worth to change? The original ones are bent that I dont like it too much.
Will it stay better with the heavy duty side plates?
Maybe the newer ones are delivered as stock. You had to mesure.

I didn't know there was such a thing.

Mine aren't bent, but if I had a reason, I would certainly replace them with the heavy duty parts.

For some reason the original posts on my 2004 :macm: had the 5mm posts I used them until badly rusted at the top of the tube. When I replaced them with the thinner ones, they bent. Replaced again only ones available were the thin pair, they bent too. Last year BWY had the 5 MM made got two right away and installed before last years trip. Sailed down wind for miles last June , no problem :)

Threw a rudder post party last year and these guys showed up: :D

Are all the factory ones thin? Is the 5mm one a BWY item only?

Roger asked me what year my :macm: is. Becouse stock delivery had the heavy ones and the thin ones. So I went to the boat to check. I was happy I had the 3mm ones. So I can improve. I guess I will order new ones when I will order the mainsail also.
By the way I have the impression the rudders are twice the price if you compare some years ago...?!

Hi Boat,
My 5 MM rudder posts were from the factory. Most likely changed to keep cost low.

If they're not bent keep on using until so.
