I guess it's too ugly - is that the issue? I need some feedback.

I can tell you that it works really well - we have used it in Avalon several times now. Normally I just use the cockpit but it's just too strange to do that in places like Avalon or Two Harbors. People look at me because I am so ugly as a naked person (hull, I'm ugly as a clothed person!) But I could not get my wife to shower in the cockpit at all and she was getting uncomfortable not getting a shower every couple of days so I made this thing and she loves it.

I can hook up the tub and hang the shower in about 2 minutes and can fold it up and put it away in about 4 and a half minutes. It really works great, too bad it's so ugly. It all fits with room to spare under the dinette seat. The shower sump works great too - and it pumps the water into the motor well.

Really, I know that others here have wanted to create a "wet room" in the M boat and I hear you - but I just don't see it. I have done almost everything that can be done to expand that bathroom:

Image

And the only place i can see to add a shower area is right here where this seat is:

Image

but the floor there is higher than the rest of the boat and water could run down into the main cabin if you put the shower there - not to mention the fact that it must be a sit down shower because there is no way to stand up there. I guess your feet would go in front of the potty and the water would drain to there??:

Image

my plumbing skills aside i have managed a little bit of improvements without any leaks and I suppose I could think of a design to put a shower there but i really think for the time you spend in the shower it's just not worth it. And how do you get the hot water all the way over to the head??

In 'boat' all the plumbing stuff is right there in the gally so putting the shower close to galley made more sense because that's where the hot water is:

Image

So, what changes should I make - I am open for suggestions.

The whole tarp thing is a bit cheesy compared to the professionalism of the rest of it. But functionally it is brilliant. How about changing the tarp for say a nice cloth shower curtain? Might make it look more homey. Easier to store too.

Your carpenter skills are amazing. That head expansion is beautiful. I ripped the door off and just put a curtain across there. It's usually just 2 of us so we don't need that much privacy. But that thing looks stock. Kudos.

I didn't see. What is your shower base made from? It looks to be the perfect size. And I guess it drains well into the sump?
I love the idea of pumping into the motor well. No more extra thru hulls.

We normally anchor out with no one within miles. But the admiral is shy and getting neked in the cockpit nevertheless. A shower is off-putting for her.
Chicks like to shower more privately I guess.

I'm going to seriously consider this mod. I like it.

You have water stored right under the sink. Interesting. My boat is aft heavy so I put water in the bow under the v-berth and run a line back there.

What are those white containers?
I was going to say they would make the galley hard to slide, but then I remembered your galley roller mod. 8)

BOAT, your mods are always outstanding. I should ask santa for a autopilot. I'd love to do your autopilot mod.

I did try a curtain but it would not keep its shape and needed to be anchored to the bottom of the tub to keep the curtain inside the shower pan. I tried one of those expanding folding shower rooms too:

I figured if I could turn it upside down it would fit the area - but I couldn't get it to work. I still think this expanding shower type of thing is a good idea if I could just figure out how to modify it. I still can't even figure out how to fold it back up after it's open. I had to get my wife to fold it closed for me - I could not figure it out. I ended up cutting that piece of tarp and it holds its shape real good. No snaps or anchors needed at all at the bottom.

The water drains out of the pan thru a tube into the sump tank and a pump in the sump tank senses the water and pumps it into the motor well. I did it that way for places where they would not let me dump my grey water (like Canada).

If I knew how to make those portable shower rooms that would be the bomb for this mod. But I don't know how to do it  I would pay someone to make one for me if they could do it.

Those containers are 2 gallon water tanks - there are three more of them under the dinette right on top of the permanent ballast - they fit perfect and it's right on top of the place where you want to carry that extra weight. I switch out the tanks in 2 gallon increments because that's what we use for two showers and it's easy to carry in a blow up kayak (my dingy is a 2 man blow up kayak). I can carry five of these at a time and another person in the kayak without sinking my dingy. :)

Why it is so important to use a shower pan? I start to think about just using the curtain. Then shower directely to the normal bootom. I guess you normally will not use hundreds liter of water... So after the shower pump the water out, whipe it clean... If you want it perfect install a pump otherwise close the little whole that goes to the battery.

Have to say I never did. But maybe it was the easiest. Why not?

Absolutely positively YES! That IS the right answer! As I was saying in the previous post there is a sort of built in "wet room" right there in the design of the M boat. And I can tell you - if it were just me all alone wanting to get a shower I would not even bother with taking it INSIDE the boat at all but this is for my wife, not me. Anyways, if for some reason I wanted to take a shower inside the boat (like a crowded marina with no shower or a crowded mooring or maybe it was really cold outside) that's exactly what I would do: I would have a curtain in that area that drags on the floor and just hook up the hose to that hole in the floor.

The wife wanted a private shower in the boat and did not want a sloppy floor afterwards - so this solved all issues. The IMPORTANT thing is that sump I put under the dinette - that design makes for a great shower of any duration.

We have found that we can get real good showers with about 1 gallon of hot water per person. I put 2 gallons in the zodi and heat it on the stove - because the stove is alcohol it is very hot and heats up the water very fast.

I told my wife I could eliminate the sloppy floor issue by just laying a teak grid on the floor so the water flows down away from your feet - I tried to convince her to use the floor but she was resistant - she did not want the shower water on the floor - but really - you guys should not care. You may not have the issue that I have with your wife but mine is accustomed to getting a hot shower whenever because of all our travels in our sprinter van spoiled her. It have full hot and cold running everything and a HUGE shower and bathroom in the van.

The floor looks great BOAT. You have inspired me to think about considering the possibility of maybe doing some mods.
