Water system and advice on ways to cool cabin

Post by macowneril2015 »

I have never seen a :macx: water system in operation or in working condition as previous owner caulked drains closed and disabled faucets for no reason I can tell. MY question is how to the standard "no - prime faucets' work and how to set up / how does a hose connect to the jug or tank and what jug or tank do I need. The second part is I have a slip in a harbor but lake shore power until I install it so I was hoping some of you have low cost ideas to cool the cabin? I was thinking battery powered fans or something along the lines of that but I am up to try anything.

Thanks,

Mike

The original freshwater system on a :macx: were pump faucets connected to supply bottles under the counters in the galley and head. The water is manually pumped using the pump handle on the faucet. I have an original faucet and supply pigtail in my junk box in the garage, but I do not have any water jugs. If you need a photo, let me know and I'll try and get one for you.

That being said, depending on how much you think you will use it, I'm not sure I'd put any significant money or effort into getting the original faucets working. I would simply keep a jug of water handy for when its needed. If you feel you need a true freshwater supply system you can get a 12V freshwater pump and a small PVC tank that you can use to build one. In my boat I installed the pump and tank under the forward dinette seat. Total cost was about $200. The pump and faucet come in a kit, like this...

I never use the faucet in the head, even though it is hooked up.

With respect to cooling the cabin, without any shore power, your only options are 12v fans and open hatches. The fans will likely be cheaper at a RV supply house than at a marine store. Eventually you might want to install a Nicro type solar powered vent to help exhaust the interior and prevent condensation, but that isn't going to offer much cooling for you.

For fans you just can't beat the Caframo fans....

They have a couple different options. Not cheap but they will give you the most air using the least electricity. We have them on both boats. It you google some of the other boat boards on the net also you will see they come out on top.

We use the gimbal type over the V-berth in both boats. They rotate 360 degrees to any position and have 2-4-6-8 hour timer operation and 3 speeds and operate on .4 amps at high speed. They are also very quiet and move an amazing amount of air. We normally run the fan on low speed and usually only need them to run 2-4 hours where they will auto shutoff.

We use the 2-speed ones in the cabin during the day. They aren't as expensive...
