Hello ,
My problem is that the deck floor , specifically the cockpit floor is severely damaged probably by age , sun and impacts . In particular in the cockpit the patterned floor has some broken parts i.e, the small recessed squares have very small holes/ breaks where you can see the blackish fiber underneath
My basic idea is painting this surface : 1) top coat filling of the small holes 2) lightly sanding and perfect cleaning of the surface 3 ) painting with poliurethane one component antislipping paint ( such an Interdeck). My fear is that this painting will partially fill the recesseses of the paterns reducing the antislipping effect , may be to be compensated by the antislipping feature of the paint...(?)
I imagine that this problem has been faced already by many Mac owners , although I could not find any older related post... Could any of you share experiences or give suggestions?
thks in advance

Re: Painting the deck
If you’re going to use paint use a two part poly rather than a one. Other option is to re gelcoat and purchase a mold for the non skid. They sell a variety of them online these days for relatively cheap (hundred bucks) and can be re-used or sold. On the cockpit floor you might get three years out of a one part poly 5-7 out of a 2 part depending on how much sand, dirt you get in there.

I've been watching BoatworksToday videos on YouTube. Here's the one about fixing non-skid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E66tfBazpBA

kiwigrip! Fast, easy, covers repairs, looks & preforms pretty well. Easy to touch up later if needed too. I did it 3 years ago on a boat and its holding up well. At the same time I also painted the cockpit benches and sides with topside paint. That was a bit more work and it is not holding up quite as well.Could any of you share experiences or give suggestions?

Seapup; Kiwigrip gets well over the non-skid diamond patterns? Would it be possible to have a picture ?

Re: Painting the deck
Sorry, photobucket ransomed my boat pics. My experience is that it hides nonskid patterns & repairs well. There are some good detailed writeups for using it online. If you decide to use it be sure to post up the results for future mac owners.Seapup; Kiwigrip gets well over the non-skid diamond patterns? Would it be possible to have a picture ?
