Daggerboard line - Help!

I am repairing my daggerboard and ended up having to cut the knot off my original daggerboard 'halyard' line and the short secondary line. They are getting worn so I want to replace them.

My question: Looking on BWY lines along with searching a number of daggerboard posts, it seems I should use the Braided Yacht line 5/16". That seems too small so I measured the diameter of my factory line and it's exactly 3/8" in diameter which is exactly what I thought it was. Does anyone know the proper line thickness for the daggerboard?

According to ancient posts, 5/16" 8mm is the correct line size. Mine measures 0.316" which is close to 5/16" for calipers on fuzzy 2013 rope. Mine is stock 2013.

3/8" will have better 'hand', so if it works without binding on something and you're happy with it, why not use the same stuff?

Walking down to the basement to measure a rope is the least I could do for one of the guys that got me into this...

I use 3/8" x 3ft line as an extension on the end of mine with a knot every 1ft got the Idea from "Been" lets me pull the D/B up from the helmsman seat

That's sort of my feeling, thicker line will be easier on the hands. Makes me wonder if the Marina where I bought her used 3/8 in place of 5/16 when initially rigging the boat.

I have 3/8" with no problems with the deck turning block. Easier on your hands. I'm thinking of adding another set of blocks on the deck to make a 3:1 so female crew can handle the board primarily in the event of an emergency.

I also have the extra blocks and highly recommend them! I will be upgrading to 3/8ths line when I replace it this spring.
