Heading to the Keys

Post by Chopper Pilot »

Getting ready to head down to Key West. My wife and I, along with a couple of friends, will be leaving Washington D.C. on 2 July 2016. Our intent is to launch the boat at the Navy Base there. Then we will head over to Conch Marina and hang out there for a couple of days in order to hit the Tiki Bars. Then we will cruise around, hoping to catch some fish and enjoy the water. Our trip will last anywhere from 5 to 10 days, depending on when we get tired of being cramped in the boat. One of my main tasks will be to film it as much as possible.

Did that trip a couple years ago...if you're launching from the base marina, you'll have to launch with the mast down as they have some power lines leading out to the inlet. Have a great time!

That is a great (and cheap) place to stay. My wife, three kids, and I stayed on a :mac19: that we had a couple years ago. You can leave your alarm clock behind and be awakened by the soothing sounds of F-18s. We loved it down there. Though our boat looked big on the trailer being pulled by a minivan, it was dwarfed by some of the yachts at the marina. Of course, we all had the same great view of the sunset.

Y'all should have a great time.

Steven

p.s. What kind of choppers do you pilot?

Great trip, have a wonderful sailing vacation, share the videos!
My first Florida sailing will be around Destin area this fall, at the end of August. However, will plan a trip to the Keys next year. For a non military like me, do you know a place to launch and park the truck and trailer? Thank you
