Heading to the Keys

Getting ready to head down to Key West. My wife and I, along with a couple of friends, will be leaving Washington D.C. on 2 July 2016. Our intent is to launch the boat at the Navy Base there. Then we will head over to Conch Marina and hang out there for a couple of days in order to hit the Tiki Bars. Then we will cruise around, hoping to catch some fish and enjoy the water. Our trip will last anywhere from 5 to 10 days, depending on when we get tired of being cramped in the boat. One of my main tasks will be to film it as much as possible.

Did that trip a couple years ago...if you're launching from the base marina, you'll have to launch with the mast down as they have some power lines leading out to the inlet. Have a great time!

That is a great (and cheap) place to stay. My wife, three kids, and I stayed on a that we had a couple years ago. You can leave your alarm clock behind and be awakened by the soothing sounds of F-18s. We loved it down there. Though our boat looked big on the trailer being pulled by a minivan, it was dwarfed by some of the yachts at the marina. Of course, we all had the same great view of the sunset.

My first Florida sailing will be around Destin area this fall, at the end of August. However, will plan a trip to the Keys next year. For a non military like me, do you know a place to launch and park the truck and trailer? Thank you
