Internet service at marina.
I am trying to find a way to watch Internet videos (Amazon Prime, Youtube, etc) on my boat TV while docked at marina. Average HD movie consumes about 2GB of data. Verizon charges $15/GB, and most recommended mobile hotspots offer maximum of 20GB for about $130 which is somewhat limited. Dish Network now offers dish Internet but only for residential use, they won't install at marina. And they require 2 years contract.
I am looking for something 100GB+ without contract. What are you using for Internet service at your dock? Thanks!

I use my iPhone and/or my iPad with an HDMI cable adapter plugged into the TV. Both devices have the AT&T unlimited data plan (22gig high speed)

When traveling, we download movies to the device to watch.
You may be able to tap a local WiFi, but most smart hotspots throttle bandwidth.

AT&T service is pretty bad where I live and especially by the lake. Just called marina and asked if they have future plans to add WiFi for a fee, and was told that other people asking as well, and they working with local cable company and would know in two-three weeks. Now I keep my fingers crossed, that is by far the best option to get unlimited WiFi for a flat fee.frede wrote:I use my iPhone and/or my iPad with an HDMI cable adapter plugged into the TV. Yes, when you travel you pretty much have to, and you can plan ahead. But when you at the dock and spontaneously decided to sleep on the boat it is nice to watch a movie or two at random.RussMT wrote:When traveling, we download movies to the device to watch.

At the boatyard on the Endeavour I use my long distance wifi.....

...and I'm able to have fast enough speeds to watch Netflix about 800 feet from the office where there internet radio is located. Once picked up wifi from about 5 miles but really slow but have had fast connections up to a mile but probably not fast enough for Netflix.
You might want to give that a try at around $200 to setup but no monthly fees after that if it works,

Neat option! I wish it was a way to try it before buying to see if it picks up WiFi at my marina. Thanks!Sumner wrote:At the boatyard on the Endeavour I use my long distance wifi.....

... Alfa 1000 for under $30 and see if it works. If it does the Bullet radio will work even better, quite a bit better. I use the Alfa 1000 on the road in motels and such as it increases the signal strength over the laptop's internal radio for better reception when the signal is weak. It is worth having as it is much easier to install and run vs. the Bullet and just might do the job for you.
If you upgrade to the Bullet and don't want to mess with setting it up which can be confusing if you piece it together like I did then I'd recommend buying the complete setup from Islandtimepc ...

... and it won't cost a lot more going that route and it is more 'plug and play' and they have great support. I notice they have switched to the Groove radio which appears to be basically the same as the Bullet and also a good choice,
