In July, we towed Galactica out to western U.S. to the gorgeous Flaming Gorge Lake. It's another hidden gem--this time in Wyoming & Utah. Stunning scenery, some great sailing and peaceful secluded private anchorages, fun hikes lots of wildlife and geological interest! Like Lake Oahe in South Dakota a few years ago, this is a hidden gem which we thoroughly enjoyed. 91 miles long with varied geological environments and up to 400' deep!
There are five parts, #2,3&4 have the red flaming canyons. If you can only view one part, try part THREE as it's mostly at Kingfisher Island and even HD doesn't do the colors justice!
I filmed and optimized the video series in High Definition so that you can cast it to your big tv and see the canyons in vibrant detail! Here is a scene from Part THREE casted to our 55"

Thanks, great videos and info. I've been by a few parts of the lake that you can drive to but never on the water but I have wanted to take the Mac there and now after seeing those I will put it on the short list,
Very nice. I'm only 3-4 hours away, yet only splashed my on the Gorge for the first this last summer. Liked it so much, turned around and went back again for the next trip. The southern half is more spectacular with a lot of vertical development, but as you might guess makes the wind pretty squirrely. Keep em comming.

Sumner, it was your blog on the canyon lakes that really inspired us to push our boat and explore as many new places as we can.
It was your anchoring fiasco and getting your back hurt which is why I carried a couple extra anchor lines along with multiple anchors on this canyon trip. I ended up studying the geology of much of the coastline on both sides via google earth and charting probable shallow anchorages on my charts all along the lake between Buckboard and Kingfisher island so that I had charted hidey holes in case of late cove arrival or to hide out from a storm. That helped us really well as we had wonderful anchorages and When a series of thunderstorms rolled in, we tucked into the boar's tusk cove for protection after the first anchoring attempt in a blow near the canal by the flaming cliffs resulted in us dragging anchor across a flooded grass field (the water was up 25 feet higher than recent years)!

Spector, I left Audicity free-version off of the list. I was trying to learn that software to see if I could layer audio tracks and emphasize or de-emphasize dialog to improve sound quality.
apparently there is only so much you can do with video from smartphones and a GoPro Hero 1.

You can get loops for free online so something like the intro sequence has a quite a few different loops layered (flash, cloud flight, stars, etc...)
Thanks for posting this. I was able to use Avidemux today at work to edit a video of a break test. It doesn't begin to make up for the amount of time I waste on this site when I should be working, but it's something.
As usual, great vids. The kind that you want to watch again and again while waiting for winter to end. The wife and I moved to Mississippi and have the boat in Long Beach. We will have to get together and do a sail sometime.

Ahhh, we wondered where you disappeared to! We missed you in Charleston a few months ago! We may be planning a sail on the gulf coast in the next year or so. I'll PM you if we head that direction!
