I think lists like this help new Mac owners prioritize or get a good view of what works. This is my 10th Season coming. Every year I did some form of mod or upgrade. Which may decrease it's resale potential, but also makes it nearer & dearer to me. & since Macs are out of production, I ain't going no where :x

I was just at the NY Boat Show, & while it's great & tempting seeing those new shiny things. We're on the same water & the opportunities to change the view are only limited by our choice to travel. We have the ability to live on our boats, even camp. Which would be kinda hard on say a Center Console triple outboard fishing monstrosity. Not that I wouldn't mind one - so long as I was subsidized for the fuel use

But it helped me to appreciate, our niche.

I don't doubt it, Ron :D

I also raised my gooseneck, 10"s & haven't noticed a difference in sailing. Really, how much can you handicap us :P

But if I had a dollar for every time I hear someone say we'll be more tender :|

I didn't get a Mac to race. That's like buying a pig to enter in a beauty contest. I bought it to cruise cheaply and comfortably. Comfortably means get a bimini, among other things. & I wanted one where I could walk under it - comfortably. So I raised the gooseneck & I've recommended that to others who, you know, want to be comfortable. & you'd a thought I told 'em to buy a pig... :|

So I thought I'd ask your findings, other than beating white hulls... - you still beat 'em - but comfortably :)

Boat, if you said you "play the banjo" in my old firehouse that meant you got a shovel put in your hand, & you got to shovel all the snow :D

Ah... Memories... :)

Gazmn wrote:Okay, my first top 5:

1A. Raised gooseneck, & therefore boom, 10"s. This helped with: 1B, 3B & 5. & allows unstooped, full standing & moving about in cockpit.

1B. The Bimini, oversized ~8'x8'. Used every sunny day. But would like to put window with flap in to view sailing mainsail. & one day, velcro in side screen panels to make enclosure.

2. Modified Captain's seat. I cut off horizontal & got 20"s more room in cockpit. & changed hinge to starboard side W/ boarding ladder on Port transom from PO. This was a no brainer. I use this on & off water for boarding.

3A. 20" wheel - When isn't bigger better? & allowed room for wheel autopilot.

3B. My water & shower system. It's been altered through the years but really helps being in saltwater for rinsing engine & peeps.

4. E-tec Engine. I can winterize in driveway, do computer & chart plotter hookup. & once again, Bigger is better 8)

5. Added Traveller & spray shield. This is all mine. Didn't copy from anyone but very useful triple duty. Also houses my outside speakers
I gotta add:

6. Back Porch - section which covers rudder steering bars, is slightly canted for drainage & also used for cockpit [covered & un] showers, diving & chillin' by the

7. Magma Grill - Chow's on & covered over by the

8. Solar & Radar Arch -from which I also hang drying gear, & houses

9. Solar Panel - which feeds the batteries & electronics like:

10. 4g Radar - which I haven't used yet but is a cool concept by

11A. Lowrance Chart-plotter

12. Raymarine MFD & Autopilot

13. New VHF W GPS & Ais for MFDs

Future Mods:
I may consider Boat Alarm,

IP Camera with low light night vision
House Wifi

Galley Remod

It works very well. Should be made of stainless steel. Using this the boat can steer herself indefinitely on some points of sail.

Wow tough one....I'll go with ....

1.) Natures Head head.....before that sailing was a stinky gross adventure off untimely grossness:)

2.) Expanded V birth with 4 inch memory foam......so cozzyyyyyy

3.) solar panels for power and bam ....I am off the grid and free to go anywhere with all my toys...

4.) Bar B q - when its hot out side thats a life saver and at the other end....

5.) A Yeti cooler....no power required and keeps things frozen/cold for weeks:) (10 days is the longest so trip so far and everything was still cold)

With the above mods and purchases life on board is great and comfortable......oh yeah don't forget about a blue tooth speaker for tunes. No wiring necessary and its solar so I don't have to hook it up or pay for batteries.

Cheers! :macx:
