Re: New here with my first Venture 21
How do you post a picture on this forum? I wanted to place a pic of my winch to see if any of you might have experience or info on it.

Re: New here with my first Venture 21
The site doesn't host pics, so you need to upload them to a pic hosting site. http://www.tinypic.com requires no sign-up or account, so it's a quick and dirty way to put a picture in a post.
Just copy the link it returns* that has the ubb code at each end (img and /img), and paste that directly into your post. Leave a blank line before and after any text in the post for best readability. Hit the preview button to see what it looks like before submitting. It will be smaller than the full-size pic, which makes for quick page loading, and if you click on the image, the full-size image comes up in a new tab.
If you click the 'quote' button at the top of this post, you can see what it looks like behind the curtain with a pic in it.

*You might have to click on a pop-up advertisement and answer a 'question' before it uploads - seems to do that every other time I upload a pic.

Use Tom's instructions above to link to them as photos are not hosted here.Curious Sailor wrote:How do you post a picture on this forum? I wanted to place a pic of my winch to see if any of you might have experience or info on it.
You can link to the photos on your blog. Right click to copy the link location and then right click here to paste it in a post inside IMG brackets.

Ok here it is.
I don't have any info on this winch and can't locate a winch handle because they all have star patterns. The winch is locked up and I will have to overhaul it. If I'm successful I would like to get the right handle.

It might be cheaper and easier to simply buy a new one or find a newer one on ebay etc.
I've never used the winches on my 26M. Handle is in the box down below. Boats these size really don't need a winch. Luff the sails and tighten them.

I've never seen a winch like that. It looks like something is missing.
And I agree - I don't think I've ever used the winches, other than to raise the mast a few times until I reworked my MRS so I didn't need them (dodger gets in the way anyway).

The winch in the picture is factory stock. I think Roger may have had them fabricated. OK size for '21. probably just need to disassemble and lubricate with winch grease. Good luck finding a handle. As you can tell, members on this site are always there with help, advice and parts. Fair Winds and Full Sails...Old Salt.

Thanks Russ.. If you don't use winches do you just kind of tie off to a cleat?RussMT wrote:It might be cheaper and easier to simply buy a new one or find a newer one on ebay etc.

Re: New here with my first Venture 21
wow... Sounds like a lot of people actually don't use these things... Lol maybe that's why the ones on my boat don't turn or click... Hourglass shaped cleats... I could work with that...Tomfoolery wrote:I've never seen a winch like that. It looks like something is missing.![]()

Re: New here with my first Venture 21
Thanks Old Salt... I'm definitely going to take them apart especially for the experience as I've never dealt with these on a powerboat. Since I hope to move up in size one day I'm going to learn as much as I can now.. I actually learn a lot from disassembling things and not being able to put them back together... Re: New here with my first Venture 21
I'll third the non-use of the winches. I still wrap the sheets around the winch, only to line it up with the cam cleat in front of it. Winch handle has never come out of the bag.
