Only MS person I know is a former mac owner and think his name was c140king.

Few AL Macs that I know about.

I been to petit bois island once if that counts. :? we was going to go from dauphin island to ship island and back over 4 days but just went to petit bois island, stayed the night and went home due to weather. Never made it to ship island. Of course it would have been faster to trailer to a launch in MS and then go to ship island but it didn't seem like the same kind of adventure.

I am from Long Beach, but not there now. I grew up on the bayous there. We would ride down our bayou, out through the Bay of St. Louis, on to Cat Island for fishing a lot. I encourage you to go to the west side of Cat island and anchor in smugglers cove. It is protected. We would go there when a storm pops up. The east side of Cat Island is shallow, causing you to circum navigate pretty far east. If you head out to Ship Island, i would anchor on the north side, next to the long dock that the ferry out of Gulfport docks. It is a long board walk that goes from the north side, to the south side. It is like the only path on the island. It has the fort, and bathrooms on it. It isnt that long, unless you are barefooted, then that hot walk can feel like it is 100 miles. Please let me know if you have any questions on the island.

Haven't had time to explore yet, but hope to soon. I have been looking at Cat Island and if it stays deserted then that looks like the kind of place me and the wife like to hang during the weekends. I have also been contemplating a 2 week sail from Long Beach, MS. to a port just north of Tampa, FL. to see kids and grandkids. Does that sound doable with the time frame? I figure if we have bad weather or wind up short on time then Its not that far to just dock the boat and go get the trailer if need be.

Sorry, I was thinking of Gulfport MS when I read your post. Will have to check Gulf shores out sometime. Maybe when Chinook comes by on his trip. :)

I would encourage heading out of Pass Christian. Long Beach is a btter harbor though. Not nearly as many shrimp boats. Man i sure miss home!!!!! The Cat is a great place. If you stay at Ship Island, you will need to stay on the north side for sleeping in calm. If you stay in that brown (river water) water, you mine as well spend your time at the Cat. It has great fishing, both from boat and wading. The Cat is owned by a private family, and they walk it all of the time. Very nice people. If i recall, the Cat is 9NM from the Pass. Ship Island is 11NM. I could be off though since it has been almost 20 years since i have spent serious time out there. But i do encourage everyone to spend a day or two at Ship Island. The south side has beautiful, Florida colored water. The islands block currents from taking the river water (brown) out to the gulf, making the Mississippi Sound's water the color it is. The Fort is pretty neat and great pictures. But i would absolutely advise you guys to wear shoes on Ship Island due to the heat on the long board walk decks that you take to see the Fort and the bathrooms!

C130 king....the stretch 10 foot version of the C130 isn't in service yet

Colonel Jim King runs a charter service out of the Gulf Coast and I'm sure he will give some advice.
