Boat model and make plaque replacements.

Located an outfit and ordered a set.



They are three by eight.
I will relocate them aft of the original location.
Cost was 70 each including setup ect for two. Bought by the hundreds cost went down to thirty. I'd of paid it.

The Coastal Edition was my way of designating my boat as having been outfitted for coastal cruising.

I would still prefer the full original logo, however you do have that in the center.

Both of these are an improvement over the cheap plastic decal of OEM.

So I did get my stainless macgregor logo tags that I ordered. The are from PlaqueMaker.com
I am disappointed with the product. The edges are quite rough and sharp and could almost cut you. The letters despite all the Laser Etching jargon, looked merely painted on.
The only positive thing is the stainless steel material, quite thick and non magnetic. However for 70 dollars a piece I cannot recommend this option. It looks very cheap. They say the lettering is fade proof however, it is in no way resistant to scratching. If you ever had to clean this, you could abrade the lettering with a scrubby pad.
They sell this for land based use, but let me tell you, if I wanted a plaque for a commemorative use somewhere (on land) I would want something that looked better then this.
I spent the evening with my dremel tool etching out the lettering in an attempt to salvage the items. I filed the edges nice and smooth and polished the face with some compound.



Sometimes you just have to do things yorn own self I guess.

Some time back I replaced my labels with Acrylic. My procedure was get 2 to 3mm clear acrylic (perspex) paint on the back the desired color (Silver).
Let them paint dry. Place the the acrylic into the laser engraver and engrave it in reverse image. Fill the engraving with black or the color you like and presto you have new badges.
Because these are done on the back the front remains glossy and looking new.
A bit of silicone to mount to the boat and your good to go.
These also could be done with the models as well

Update
It took me six hours and several diamond burrs to engrave the letters into the SS, clean up the edges and polish the face to a mirror shine. I used two sided 3M tape to afix the badges to the boat. One of those labors of love. Not perfect but for me perfect is usually bad luck
I wrote the company to complain about the use of the word "engraved" when in fact the letters are applied to the surface of the metal. I told them I'd attempted to salvage the items and they offered to refund half my purchase price.
So there is that.

I tried to get new Mac stickers for my X in Australia and found out the dealers here dont keep any stock of any X spares and very few M spares.

Bit silly they have a dealer network and no spares, in fact one dealer told me they hadnt had spares for X's for many many years

Just hope something major doesnt break or I will have to make it myself or send to the USA for the parts

I'm going to use the original plaque location for the name of the boat now. But using the original plastic is a nice idea if the name would fit.

Its not all that useful but I have a 3D printer if anyone wants something printed. I am working on getting approval for a laser engraver for next year which could be pretty useful.

Surprisingly it wasn't that difficult engraving with a dremel. But good bits are the key. The diamond burrs worked the best. I used about 20 bucks worth of them. Knowing what I know now I would have made these earlier but used a good grade of aluminum instead of SS.

Interesting. Yea, I bet aluminum would look nice as well. Certainly easier to work with.
