Sold my 1997 MacX

Post by DaveB »

Buyer is from N.Florida and has had many other trailer sailing boats.
This boat had over $12,000 worth of parts past year. Sold for $15,000.
Not worth upgradeing! !! You will never get close to what you put in.
I will be completing my toy hauler 14 ft this week to support twin 12 ft kayaks and two full size motorcycles.
Want to say I enjoyed the forum and past 8 years hoped to help others.

Sad to see it end, but yes, there comes a time. Hope you'll still stop in and say 'hi', though, Dave.

I owned the MacX for over 8 years, That's more than twice the time I owned all my other 6 sailing boats at any time.
That has to say a lot for a MacX.
This boat is ready to launch in 15 min. with girlfriend, haul out takes same time from ramp.
You beach it, haul up centerboard for shallow grounds, put board down beating to windward with 105 jib and sail within 45 degrees beating in 8 knots of wind.
Most of the 150 Genoa will never get this close to windward as the outside track just won't allow it. I have proven this sailing with other Macs with 150 genoa.
The 150 is good on broad reach but downwind a 105 with a poled out will outdo the 150.
These boats are a bit tender and find the 105 Jib works perfect inside tacking, working alone with Main down in a blow and will beat to windward under Jib alone to 50 degrees.
So yes this boat can beach, sail Shoal waters and can do blue water Sailing for the Prudent Skipper that has Experance.
I have had Many solo trips as Many trips with West Coast Trailer sailors, going thru most West Coast Of Florida and Many trips to the Keys.
Hope New Owner will benefit from this Forum and give support.

Old men don't Die away, they just pass (XXXAway) no way my friend, new horizons Kayaking, Motorcycling up the Smookies, rafting on the rivers.
I am getting second wind on life and Sailing past 50 years ...I cut the line. Time to move on before I kick the bucket.
But how can one say sailing for 50 years pass away...never!

Dave

PS: I will still moniter this Mac Group and if feel fit will give proper advice, most of it will be on the need to know.
I can feel the Grumps now :P

I just wanted you to know that I have always valued your comments on the forum. You have always seemed like a knowledgeable DIY guy with good judgement. Sorry you could not get the price you feel you deserved. If you ever need a MacX "fix" just let me know. I have had mine now for almost 12 years, expect to keep it indefinitely. Have it at a slip on Lake Monroe in Sanford Florida. Fair winds and following seas... :)

Thanks Herschel, I already feel the need to get the Rail down but for time being it will be on a motorcycle/Kayak.
Will look you up in my travels to Sanford.

(I always liked beating to Windward...must be the wind and waves thing)

Thanks Gazmn, New owner took delivery Sat. after 2 hrs of raising mast and taking him thru the know hows in 89 degree heat.
I gave him this web site and he has owned many sailboats in the past, said he was 71 years young.(His name is Tito)
I am still here and willing to give my 2cts to others.

I am not gone yet Mastreb, I still will be here just to crank your tractor!
Hope the season gave you good sailing and stories to tell. :)
There is a saying about best time is buying and selling. The moments you have on your boat will always be , and you will remember! :)
Safe Sailing,
