looking for crew , Friday's Northern VA

Post by rszobel »

I am in Northern VA and always looking for crew because i am not yet set up for single handing. I have every other friday off work and love to head out then as there is very little traffic on potomac. I keep my boat in a slip at Aquia Bay MArina. Anyone interested in joining me for a sail this friday (if weather holds after expected storms thursday) ?? We could sail for morning and head over to Tims II for crabs, then sail for afternoon -- let me know if interested this friday or any other time that i have available - Rob.

I live in the area and sail a Tattoo 26. I don't keep my boat locally so I'd definitely be up for a sail on Fridays. Send me a personal message and I'll give you my phone number.

Take care and fair winds

I've got mine :macx: stored at Leesylvania SP in Woodbridge. I haven't had in the water for a while due to family medical issues.

Alas - my season is over as I took her out of water last weekend. I was thinking very hard about moving boat to leesylvania. I was there today and I bet I saw your boat hennecle - did it have a blue cover on it ? Very nice cover - where did you get it and how much??

Although my boat is out for season, if anyone needs crew - I'm happy to help out!

After much thought about boat storage, the admiral and I made a decision today about the long term plan for our 2001 X. When we bought it a few years back, our tow beast tranny took a crap and we could no longer use it for towing. We purchased anyway with the intent to put it into a slip until we could afford a new tow beast. Well we purchased new last June and now it is time for us to think about mobility. I have never really felt comfortable with the original single axle trailer - so in the spring we are going to purchase a tandem axle load rite. In order to recoup the cost of the trailer we intend to move the boat to the house in the spring and keep it there over the next few years - it will be nice to be able to do mods where I have all my tools! We will have a single axle trailer for sale in the spring - it is in decent shape - I just never felt comfortable with a single axle trailer for a boat the length of the Mac.

Since we purchased the boat we have been in a slip down in Stafford and I have spent zero time thinking about the possibilities that open up once your have a good trailer and tow beast. We plan to try it out in outer banks, maybe smith mountain lake, Chesapeake for a week, there are just lots of new possibilities that I have never considered.

Please post any ideas you may have on places to go within about a 6hour radius - I don't really enjoy driving much farther than that for vacation. I have never thought about using the boat without the sails and mast but I think we may start doing more of that and camping as well. Again - any suggestions are welcome - mast up and sailing or mast down(or off boat) - suggestions will save me a lot of research!

All of your responses to my original post looking for crew were very much appreciated. I will contact each of you as I would certainly enjoy getting to know other local Mac owners as I believe in having a local network for sailing, mods, general help, or emergencies should anything arise.

A thanks in advance for posts on ideas of places to take our soon to be mobile Mac.
