I've dealt with SailRite a few times over the past year and they are very good. If you have any question or confusion, of your tear doesn't quite match one of the kits in the catalog, call them up and I expect they'll take care of your specific needs.

I had a small hole in my mainsail. I went to my local sail loft and they put an adhesive patch on it for free in a few minutes while I waited and prodded them with all the questions I wanted answered. They said that would fix it. They were fast, friendly, my favorite price, free! :), and seemed very knowledgable. There are a number of sail lofts in my area, but they put themselves on the top of my list to recommend and call in the future!

Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to call your local sail loft and describe the tear to them. Maybe the repair might be quick, inexpensive, and save a lot of hassle.

Keep in mind that I'm a newbie sailboat owner. So, maybe your tear requires more extensive repair than I might understand.

Regards,
ROB

Stephen,

I also have a small tear in my genny. looks like it was ripped by my winch while trailoring. Those winches have sharp edges. what did you end up getting? i went to the web site and was overwhelmed with many options. i am interested in cheap and minimal. i'd rather inquire with a disinterested party like yourself than the company selling the products. nothing against them, of course. thanks.

I had a 1 long tear in my main sail. So I purchased from Sailrite the Small Sail Repair Kit plus a book on making & repairing your sails. You can find the kit on page 20 and the book on page 51 of their catalog. I found the repair to be quiet easy after reading the section on repairs. I was not sure how long the repair would hold-up but it has made it through two seasons. The tear did not go any further. If it starts top fail, Ill just take out my needle and thread! I like being self-sufficient and this is one step towards that.
