Careful with those IDA rudders. The conditions described are perfect to snap one of those puppies. Stock will hold up better since fiberglass is much stronger than plastic.

I remember a post way back in history when Mad Mike used to post occasionally. He once posted about his planing to cross the Pacific to go to (I think) Hawaii. He said he would never trust the stock rudders when making such a trip. I believe he posted that the rudder brackets themselves should be replaced with a much stronger configuration.

I,m thinking of taking one of my ida sailor rudders & take it to a fiberglass shop an get a quote to make replicas in fiberglass once the sailing season is over
