Hammock on the foredeck
Can anyone post a picture of a hammock on the foredeck?
It seems at this point, I'm much more adept at floating than sailing... so working on mods in that direction. I'm thinking one could string a camping hammock between the mast and the bow-pulpit rather easily, but the picture in my head may not reflect reality.

Bill at Boats For Sale recently posted that he has a hammock. You might try emailing him?

Re: Hammock on the foredeck
I don't have a picture, but I tried this a few weeks ago. I have a backpacking hammock from REI and attached one end on the pulpit when the mast is attached for trailering, and attached the other to the cleats on the mast. The hammock is fairly long and with the ends of the hammock just about all the way to the pulpit and cleats, it hangs just above the deck. When I lay it it, there's about an inch of clearance above deck. So the angle from the pulpit being fairly low doesn't keep it much off the deck. They space between mast and pulpit (or mast and forestay, even shorter) doesn't leave a lot of room to keep it off deck.

I would be very interested in learning what others have done in the hammock dept. on a Mac. I've had several requests from the crew.

This through me off. Did you mean “where”, not “when”?and attached one end on the pulpit when the mast is attached for trailering,

I used to sleep in backpacking hammocks - but I was always confident that if I fell out, I would not drown.

Re: Hammock on the foredeck
The best type of hammock to use, IMO, is one with a spreader bar on both ends. You may have to roll up the forward end if it is too long. I lash the forward end on top of the bow pulpit just aft of the forestay. A line from the aft end goes around the port side of the mast, over the boom, aft to the starboard winch, which I use to tension the hammock.

Bill,
A picture would be nice
I understand the set up, but I don't understand how it works
How does a single line going around the port side of the mast, travel over the boom, and finally gets wrapped on the starboard winch create enough stability. Does securing the other end across the pulpit really work. I am asking the question, while at the same time saying to myself, “Bill does it, so it must work, duh
”
Still, a picture would be nice.

Re: Hammock on the foredeck
Rigging the jiffy-reef, drinking a bottle of wine, and hanging the hammock are my only real priorities for tomorrow. I'll post pictures of what I come up with...
Reading on the hammock forum (yes, there is such a thing) there are multiple references to slinging a hammock to either the forestay or the backstay...
Another suggestion was to loop a caribiner around the forestay, and use the jib halyard to raise it to the desired height, tying the opposite end to a cleat on the mast.
The second option seems easy, and almost elegant, but I wonder about putting that much weight on the forestay? I'm pretty green here, but surely it can't be good.

Re: Hammock on the foredeck
Sorry I don't have details. This was from a year or so ago. It was one of my favorite moments on Miss Ollie with an REI pocket hammock.

Now if I could only remember what was playing in my headphones.
Find a way to hang yours & make it happen.
I like the around the mast loop or winch tie off & a furler wrap before attaching to the pulpit
& To Ron - As always - Enjoy your waffles

It might depend on whether you prefer waffles on your peaches, or peaches on your waffles.mrron_tx wrote:That hammock shown @ that website might be comfortable...but it is guaranteed to make waffle marks in Your skin from laying on those ropesMy Wife threw Hers away..maybe gave it away when She got tired of Me calling Her " waffle butt "
