Standard Horizon marine radio troubleshooting

I'm starting to think that my Standard Horizon marine radio isn't working - I can't get a radio check ( but I can from an handheld). Looks like the base unit works (comes on anyway). How can I check the antennae to isolate the problem?

You said you can with your handheld. Well can you talk to yourself with the handheld ? can you hear it ?

I could hear the transmission break - I think. No voice.

Can you connect the handheld to the antenna at the connector?

Ok then, can you hear the Weather station ? if no, it's the antenna or broken radio. And check your antenna cable with a ohm meter for a short. Red on center, Black on ground, (the ring).

Yeah, I'm having trouble even getting Ch 23 - even with a handheld. Got an ART3 - Shakespeare on order.
