Canyon Lake, TX July 11-15

Post by White90GT »

Our Sea Scout Ship (Red Skies Sea Scout Ship 208 on Facebook) is going to be on Canyon Lake in Texas from July 11 through July 15th. We have 14 kids and a few parents who are getting PADI SCUBA training and Open Water certification and doing their final dive tests on July 12th. We will be staying/camping at Potters Creek. We plan to bring a few small sailboats and hopefully our Mac 26x to sail if we get the repairs completed in time. I only know of a couple of Mac owners that are on this site in Texas, but if you are and see the post, come on out and hang out or just get on the water and look for our kids ages 14-21 sailing small boats near Potters Creek campgrounds.

I never did update this thread, I guess because I had posted another about carb issues.

We got the patch work completed on the boat in time, but couldn't get the 50hp Tohatsu in running order and tested in time for the trip. Once the trailer repairs and patch work were done I brought the boat to my house and worked on getting the motor running. I had to take off and clean all 3 carbs which were all gunked up. We sucked out most of the gas from the dual tanks and put 4 gallons fresh in each. The motor would start up and run, but wouldn't rev properly and wouldn't idle at all. As soon as you tried to put it in gear it would die. I spent two nights trying to get it working right and we finally gave up and taking the :macx: to Canyon Lake.

We ended up taking a few small boats.
Adrianna is a 19' dolphin we took, un-named yellow sunfish, and un-named my Hobie 16 (although my daughter wants to call it Queso because it looks like two different colors of cheese LOL).

The winds weren't steady at all while we were there, but I did spend pretty much the whole weekend on my Hobie taking the kids for quick sails as the wind would pick up, then drop back off again. The best wind we had was Friday night and unfortunately we had to set up camp and didn't have time to unload the boats and enjoy it. Then the 2nd best wind was Tuesday night and we had the same problem, it was time to start loading the boats up so we could haul out Wednesday morning.

I did sail from Potter's creek campground over to the dam on my hobie. It was stop and go with the wind and took me 3 hours to get there LOL. Coming back the wind picked up though and I made it back in less than an hour.

We did our SCUBA training over in the other army corps park by the dam. It was a nice swim, a few vehicles, boats, etc.. submerged to look at In the area.
