Curtains!!!

Hey all! Have what is probably a simple question, but it's driving me nuts...

Attaching, firmly, any sort of curtains/blinds etc to the inner walls for windows. I've gone through almost every form of adhesive and they all eventually - due to humidity/heat? - unstick and fall off.

How are folks doing this seemingly easy thing? I'm worried about screws around the portholes and such...

Curtains I just go on the theory that if Someone looks in....They shouldn't be shocked at what They see Ron.

Can rivnuts be installed with a pop riveting tool? Mine has a bunch of mandrels with it, of varying sizes, and I'd rather not invest in the special installation tool.

Rivenuts are designed to be installed with a pop-rivet type tool. The issue is how to interface the rivet tool with a threaded shank for the rivenut. If you work that out, are you and the tool strong enough. All that said, there is a very inexpensive tool from Aircraft Supply to install these things.

I didn't know the shank part was threaded all the way. I kind of assumed it was straight and smooth, like a pop rivet, with only a threaded button at the end. But if a special tool is needed, so be it. Have to put it on the list, as I just keep buying 'special tools' for boat stuff.

Rubber rawl nuts also work real well. As you tighten the bolt they compress and hold their position. Only down side is a slightly larger hole needs to be drilled but then probably the same for other options.

True. But Rawl nuts also add vibration protection and prevent cracking of the fiberglass, and given the centers are almost always brass, they also won't corrode.

One drawback of riv-nuts is that if that riv-nut ever loosens up in the fiberglass and starts spinning then it's a *real* bear to get the screw out... you've got almost nothing to grab, particularly if you can't easily get to the back side.

I was getting nervous, as all the hits I got on Google for Rawlnuts were in the UK and NZ. But I found them, or an equivalent, on McMaster. http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-rivet-nuts/=sid51a I'm going to need something like that to remount my 120V breaker and receptacles, as the PO use sheetrock screws through the boxes into the liner. Par for the course.
