Germany, a country roughly half the size of Texas, made twice as many cars as the US. And of course they don't outsource as much anymore, the rules for H1B and L1 visas are so bloody lax these days you can just fly someone over to work for cheap.

Here is an interesting site for people who want to know what percentage of their vehicle is American made

http://abcnews.go.com/WN/MadeInAmerica/ ... e-13795239

The Ram is 70%.

My Daughter Mazda 6 is 55%.

Some models of Mercedes are 62%.

Honda Accord 80%. :o

Toyota Tundra 80% :o

That link doesn't seem to work? I would like to know. Also wondering if that's made in USA or North America?

Just checked it and it works good at this end. It must be one of those Canadian Socialist filters at work. Please do not let the socialist Maryland government know how well that filter works because they will then buy it and use it on anything that goes against there socialist views.

There that's better, works now...60% for Ford F-Series. Now I just have to get back to the hospital where we just had our first baby boy :) (6lbs 11oz) in our private room for $0. Maybe Maryland’s socialist views help improve their education standards as well

Maybe. Jury is still out on Chrysler products, as I've had a bad taste from them that goes back decades. :|
Currently if you want an SUV with the same 3.0L Diesel, 8 Speed Transmission, Air Suspension, and even better 4 wheel drive system and capabilities but can't haul and tow like a pickup but will have no trouble with towing any Mac, there is only one. Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have never had issues with Chrysler products from a 1974 D100 318 three on a tree truck of my youth to my 2003 TJ Rubicon made and assembled in America in Louisiana to be exact. It does have a Japanese Air Lockers though which just broke due too many performance mods to the vehicle and numerous Rock-crawling adventures.Time to upgrade again :) .
I took a quick look at the Grand Cherokee, and it's a nice looking vehicle. A little bigger than my Highlander, with a higher tow rating, plus sway control, which my Toyota doesn't have.

I don't know about that Italian diesel, only because it's new on the market (this is the first year Jeep is offering it), and I don't know how well it will hold up. I also doubt that the fuel savings will come up to the extra cost over some reasonable payback period. Repairs I don't know about, either, though I guess these days, since everything is electronic fuel injection, there's not a whole huge difference. My diesel experience starts with pre-combustion chamber Caterpillar engines with gasoline pony motors, and hasn't progressed much from there (even though I design with modern stuff - other people fix it  ), so my ignorance on the subject is nearly all-consuming. The only Italian diesels I used to be familiar with were Fiat-Allis, in heavy equipment, and they were as good as any other diesels, but I think they were designed when the company was still Allis-Chalmers.

But I'm very interested in the Jeep, and will give the diesel a serious look later in the year. Maybe with a little research into the history and longevity of that engine, too.

Just dumped a 2013 jeep Grnd Cherokee back on the market, was a total piece of crap, window motors, door locks, a/c blend door and actuators, seat controls and tail light wireing all started failing in less than two years with repeat failures. on 3.6 v-6 you must remove intake manifold to replace 3 driver side spark plugs.Along with a 2008 jeep patriot that was also a hunk of junk I would never purchase a jeep product again.replaced jeep GC with Toyota 4runner, body on frame like Tacoma truck, reliable v-6, much better tow vehicle then jeep GC.

I've had two 4Runners so far, and only got the Highlander because the admiral wanted to drive it and thought the 4Runner was too 'truck-like'. Next vehicle will be truck-like. Or a truck. (Or not. :? )

Edit: I should add that I've been driving a Toyota of one kind of another since 1990, with fantastic history of reliability and zero major repairs (only minor, under warranty). I think I'm on my 6th Toyota in a row. The admiral has been driving a Honda since before then. I don't even know why I'm looking at other brands. :|

Funny you say that when the Liberty on the first page after 150,000 has had only 3 sets of tires, one thermostat replaced at 143,000 , and one Battery all while towing my heavily equipped :macx: Now my 2003 TJ Rubicon does not tow a Mac but on the other had do not try to follow me anywhere off road with it in any Toyota, Nissan, Land Rover, and even Hummer; YOU WILL NOT MAKE IT and I took the back seat out to make room for an equipment box and dogs. Passenger seat is reserved for a spotter who knows what they are doing or a big busted woman to give me something to look at :D

My 2002 Jeep Cherokee Limited Overland Edition, with the H.O. 4.7 ltr engine has 230,000+ miles and has had 2 window regulators and 1 oxygen sensor replaced, besides regular maintenance. (oops, forgot about replacing four gas struts for the hood and tailgate). I am well satisfied with the vehicle and it is a daily driver.

Mine is a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 220,000 (bought it with 211,000, don't drive it much) 5.9 liter engine and tow package. Kids LOVE it and it was very handy in the recent 3rd worst winter ever in the Chicago area. :P

Anyone ever had a tow beast repainted? I'm thinking about it (Maaco) - it would be purely ego if I did it.

Here you go man up this what I used on my 2003 TJ Rubicon inside and outside. Mine was the textured Yellow and Black. You can get a smooth coat or textured, and even colors that glow in the dark. Put on with brush and roller.
