You could just replace the water ballast with other food and water stuff.
Lets see, that's 150 1 gallon jugs of water or .....................
(of course you cannot just dump it all when you want to go fast)
Try to jog with a full 1 gallon water jug and then a half empty gallon jug. This is what is going to happen to your boat when the water ballast is not full.

Here's my two cents (for the Hawai'i trip fantasy): cut out a 1'x1' hole in the sole near the gurgle spout (or whatever the hull you call it) and install a water-tight, openable seal. Fill the water ballast tank with as many 16 oz water bottles as will fit. Fill the rest with sea water. When you need a drink, take out a bottle, drink it, put sea water back into the bottle, then put a mark on the bottle so you won't confuse it with fresh. Replace the bottle and get an unmarked bottle. Repeat until you arrive in Pearl Harbor, then take out the bottle marked Jack Daniels.

Sorry about that Hawai'i reference. But what's the problem -- too many idiots who dream about being the first to sail a Mac from Long Beach to Honolulu taking up space on the board (love the visual)? Actually, my wife hails from Australia and she keeps subtly encouraging my fantasy to sail the Mac there. Perhaps a hidden agenda? -- what with the life insurance and all.

Anyone think Roger could be persuaded to lay in custom hypalon bladders fitted to match the contours of the the ballast areas of the M hull???,

cuz that is the only time it really makes sense........ but yes...the bladder could be ribbed, and affixed tight enough to not slosh as much as half a tank of water....This an would free up at least a lockers worth of storage for those of us that put in 35 gallon flex tanks, provide more storaga tankage...and keep the weight on the centerline of the boat.

The only difficult engineering issues is the process of filing around the tank so as to prevent the entrapment of a large bubble under the tank.

OK, just for you, I'll try for a quadruple negative statement... I was in a hurry, had some things to attend to, and hightailed before I corrected my many mistakes....it happens......ok?


What I was trying to simply convey is I empty ballast most of the time, unless I have the sails up, or the conditions mandate it! Does that suit ya?

Max, try saying the phrase "big-ass straw" with a SOUTHERN accent, (redneck American) ..... {me Tennessee} or better yet, if it won't offend, a Florida Cracker accent. compare whereas a "Yankee" well north of Mason's and Dixon's line would say " A mother-f---'in huge straw" --- Actually I bet some others on this site could do alot better for the Yankee phraseology - we will hear shortly I'm sure.
Now i know you Brits call any American colonial a "Yank" but there is a distinction here and I wouldn't want you to unknowingly ruffle certain provincials.

Clean out your ballast tank. Fill with fresh water. Sail to the Bahamas/Mexico. You have to pay for fresh water there, so, when ready to come back sell the water you have left. Fill the ballast tank with Rum/Tequila. When you get back sell what you have left. Might not pay for your boat, but might pay for your trip
