trailer + boat lenght?

Post by sirlandsalot »

Hello everybody, I am curious if anyone knows how long the total length is of a 26m on it's trailer? I am asking to make sure I don't buy a moto rhome too long.

Thanks in advance!

When I was looking for where to park my Mac, I found the length of boat and trailer to be 38 feet from tip of trailer tongue to motor prop with motor tilted up.
This does not include mast in down position, which is another 2 feet or so...

Mine is sitting next to the house .. Rudders and Motor up, ready for travel down the road, I get , Tip of Tongue to Tip Rudders 30' 6" .. That Number does NOT include The mast. My mast adds another 18" in length. Makes a total Maximum length at 32'.. Not sure how Jeff measured 38" for Trailer Tongue to O.S. edge of rudders and 2 feet additional for mast extending past rudders? We are seeing an 8 foot difference here. I measured mine using a 35' Stanley Tape measure..

I was going to say 32-35 just by looking. Ummm is that a glitch or are both your avatars extremely similar?

That's what I got when I measured with the motor DOWN. Motor up, it tilts out and extends further. I was looking at this for indoor storage and building a garage for it. Most I found were 30' and this put me 6" over.
Mast does stick out from the rear when attached to the bow pulpit. I was thinking I could lay the mast forward on the pulpit and it wouldn't extend aft and fit within the 30' 6".
I am asking to make sure I don't buy a motor home too long.
What does the length of the boat have to do with this?

It varies state by state, and road by road, but there is usually a max length allowed without a permit. I've seen it from 55-70 feet. Not that it's commonly enforced, luckily.

It's a serious question and one I'm dealing with since MH + boat/tlr is overlength. I bought a overlength permit for 5 days for $30 in my home state of Utah and drove Freeway, frontage and artery streets passing HP and city police with no questions. Reading RV forums it appears recreation types are mostly under the radar compared to commercial travel. Several others have warned me not to travel in CA without a permit. :?

Next month going to NOLA with a big rig, hoping for the best. :macx:

Interesting. I never realized it would vary state to state.

Great, thanks very much! I am looking at a 33 foot motor home, and the limit here in BC is 65'7" or 20 meters. I believe we are the most restricted in all provinces.

the mast will put me over, maybe I can beg forgiveness or put it on the roof! The admiral is horrified by the length of this whole idea....

84 Winnebago and a mac....bring on the summer, Sandpoint ID. here I come!

thanks again.

I really want to watch that boat launch - backing up such a long wheelbase vehicle with a equally long trailer. You probably can charge admission (and teach classes after doing it right the first time).

Hving never owned a motorhome myself I take from my grandfathers experience that travelled often with motorhome and boat. He always preached how much easier it was to launch the boat with it hooked to a hitch on the front of the vehicle. He just had to unhook it and switch ends at the ramp.

I know I always have fun trying to back any trailer that is thinner than the vehicle I'm towing it with. By they time I see it with the mirrors it's already turning. No problem currently with a Mac. I wouldn't know if a mac was any thinner than a motorhome.

Get Those Rear View Mirrors , Out Farther from the body of your truck and it changes what you see .. Back N The Day... Those Cheap Chrome West Coast Mirrors were on just about every Pickup I ever saw and on every pickup I ever owned. Think about it , when you are behind an 18 wheeler. Often you see a sign that says if you cannot see me in my mirrors . I cannot see you. His MIrrors stick out from the body of that truck quiet a ways..
Then it just becomes Practice Practice Practice....

Someone posted this pic in a thread about towing some time back, and since it had a lot of useful information in it, I saved it. Since it's a tandem axle trailer, it's not factory original, but the relative position of the mast to the OB, along with the height and the tongue dimensions, may be useful. Wish I could find the original thread, but I can't.

Image

Oh, and for comparison, my :macx: setup is a hair over 30 ft (like 31 ft), which I remember because at 30 ft or longer, a trailer needs an intermediate amber side marker light, per DOT regs. My mast is even with the end of the OB when it's tilted all the way up. The :macm: mast is 3 ft longer, and presumably starts at about the same point in the bow rail relative to the furthest point forward of the deck. Just from the visual, the pole tongue of my trailer doesn't carry as far forward from the pedestal as the one in the pic, which would be about 1.5 ft longer than mine if the mast was 3 ft shorter.
