Electric ballast gate valve

Post by mastreb »

This should be a bolt-on replacement for the ballast tank valve:

Or this one may be even better, but is a different manufacturer:

This would allow you to put a ballast tank switch on the helm. The switch has a red LED showing whenever the gate valve is open. Not something I'm particularly interested in doing, but it might be an interesting mod for those so inclined.

Wonder how water proof (salt water) that motor is. Looks like it is mounted directly above the gate so would be awfully exposed on a Mac.

Would be convenient though 8)

Second one looks the ticket fully sealed impervious to rust :)

I like it! For the price, I think it would be worth a try, you could disassemble and see if there was any additional waterproofing possible. I would only worry about it seizing up and not being able to get it open.

On closer inspection,I read the details on the second one and found|

"Opens and closes in less than 2 seconds. Manual override if power fails. Fully sealed motor with no external moving parts. Made of aluminum, stainless steel and ABS plastic, so it’s impervious to rust. Includes switch with LED indicator and label for mounting near valve; add an optional secondary switch (sold separately) for inside or outside operation."

These features sound great, it's out of stock online, but I will watching out for this one to come back in stock.

Thanks Paul--something I've wanted to build for a long time.
