I don't understand. On 'boat' everything is on the port side: the hinge on the helm seat, the aft light, the radio whip, the fuel line, the motor control cables, the steering linkage, the ballast valve, even the sink drain.

That leaves the whole starboard side unencumbered for the ladder. Is that not how all the boats are?

Interesting point. BTW, BOAT, that is the cleanest Mac I've ever seen.

Looks like the boat show boat has changed some things. It seems odd to me to have the boarding on the port side. As Mr. BOAT pointed out, there is more "stuff" on the port side, running light, vent, drain.
Maybe Laura is left handed and finds it easier to grab the port stern rail while boarding.



The Tattoo website shows the ladder on the starboard side as well as a cool built in shower. This Tattoo doesn't have a motor installed and no steering controls on the starboard side. Can't see in the photo if they are on the port side.



It's no big deal, but I prefer the ladder on the starboard side. I guess we Mac owners have nothing better to discuss about the new boat.

My guess is that all the positioning except the ballast drain reflects the decisions of the dealer who installs the motor and gear. My 2003M has everything on the port side - including the ladder. Starboard is completely clear except for the depth-finder transponder I located there.

Oh I never thought about the dealer part because I got 'boat' from the factory - I picked it up right outside of the glass bay in the Costa Mesa factory. I guess i just assumed they put the motor on there because they pulled it out with a forklift. The hitch chain and trailer brakes looked like they had never been used. Perhaps they moved it somewhere else to install the motor and then brought it back to the factory?? They must have a truck hidden somewhere over there that hauls the boats to a place to get a motor. I did not see any tow vehicle but I guess there must be one somewhere.

Okay, so I guess not all the boats are the same. I get it now.

Check out the bottom of the wheelhouse - that little trim piece at the bottom of the pedestal is kinda cool, I think I want one.

('boat' wears good old 'Fleet Wax' - it helps to have a teenager around that is willing to rub wax for 20 bucks).

I agree, the ladder on the M was a dealer add on and placed at their discretion.
So, if your ladder is on the PORT side, do you have to step over the steering linkage and motor controls? That's why I like the ladder on the starboard side. I can step in the motor well without stepping on stuff.
The X appears to have much more room for boarding from the transom.

The Tattoo web site also shows the ladder on the starboard side and what appears to be controls on the port. Yea, I know, I need to get a life and stop analyzing these subtle differences.

Yes, I noticed that pedistal base and it appears to be a smarter design with better support.

Fleet Wax you say? I just bought some Collinite Fleet Wax. Haven't tried it yet, but I have high expectations. I've seen so many photos of motor wells and we Mac owners typically don't keep them very clean. Yours gleams.

I think there were fairly large bolts holding that flange down. It may actually be how the pedestal is mounted and not just a trim piece. I remember seeing it and thinking it could be somethign to catch a bare foot on, vs the pedestals that have the mounts inside.

Just like the X minus the external rudder connector. Looks nice.

Yes, but it was something I got used to pretty quickly. The narrowness of the opening between boat and motor is more of an issue, but to fix that I'd have to trade for an X - and that's not likely. They don't come in blue
