I Voted OTHER...For me its plain and simple . Its a Mac.. Its Not a Venture and its not a Tattoo.. Venture at least was a predecessor and Tattoo is a New Boat from a New Owner, Built in a new place.. IMHO ... Venture and Tattoo's need their own Burgee.. The Pufin is OK.. Those who know, know , and those who do not know " May " ask ?? Many maybe most wont even ask , unless you fly it at the dock..

Re: Any interest in a Mac burgee for your boat.
Hmm. Well, my thought wasn't for making a burgee for the BOAT, but instead one denoting membership in this FORUM. As such, I saw it as including ALL the boats represented by this forum - Venture, MacGregor and Tattoo. And since (mostly) they were black & white boats it seemed appropriate to have a (mostly) black & white bird to represent all of them. The goofiness of the Puffin just adds a bit of tongue-in-cheek amusement to the burgee, IMHO.Divecoz wrote:I Voted OTHER...For me its plain and simple . Its a Mac.. BTW, Tattoo will be a part of this forum - we have Laura Sharp's permission to use the official Tattoo logo and devices in support of Tattoo owners. Heath has been very busy, but he will be adding sections to the forum for Tattoo Yachts and some design changes to include Tattoo, and I've already designed the little 22 & 26 icons with the Tattoo logo.
Oh, and yes, I do know that there are at least two different boat manufacturers make boats called 'puffins' and/or use the puffin in their logo. I don't think folks will us get confused.

I don't know about the skull & crossbones... don't you think that's a little over-used? And how would it relate to the Mac/Tattoo/Venture products?K9Kampers wrote:Nuthin' against puffins, but what about the tartan with a skull & crossbones?
The puffin image may associate with Puffin Dinghy
My second choice was to put a Winnebago on it. The point to both the puffin and the 'waterbago' was a bit of self-deprecating humor.

Flip the Winnebago logo upside down and it might work

I understand that concept and have NO ISSUE with that at all..
Just a little input , relative or not
I now live in Port Charlotte Fla. and DaveB lives south of me an hour or so , IIRC Cape Coral. In my general area there are no less than 50 Mac's
and an assortment of other " Mac's and Ventures" .. Yet Dave and I are I believe , the ONLY memebers of this board out of all of those owners.. IMHO a Board / Club specific Burgee could play either way..
BTW I like the Pufin idea and find it fitting... I would probabley buy 2 Burgees.. One To Fly on the Wind Wine&Song
and another to fly on the flag pole that sits out by our dock/pier..

Re: Any interest in a Mac burgee for your boat.
Kevin is a good sport about this topic.
To be fair, he only wanted to create some kind of sticker of sorts to identify other forum members at the Annapolis boat show. After seeing his first attempt, I thought it would be a great burgee.
The "waterbago" is funny.
I voted for my fav. So there seems to be an interest in a burgee. I'll look further into the cost. Maybe after recouping initial setup costs, any profits from the sales could go to support this forum.

I've explained it several times in this thread, but here's some snippets that may help...DaveC426913 wrote:What exactly DOES the puffin represent?
... Years ago I made a Mac burgee using one of the MacGregor clan tartans with an "M" in a ball with a "Puffin" bird mascot (a black & white, plump, somewhat quirky yet surprisingly graceful Scottish waterfowl - seemed appropriate!)... it was created as a bit of a joke....
... Besides, you loose all the silly symbolism of the Puffin! A goofy, clumsy, Scottish bird that nobody would ever say was beautiful, but it's definitely "built-for-purpose" and entirely unique - nothing else looks like one - and it's amazingly successful in it's environment.

Re: Any interest in a Mac burgee for your boat.
Just to throw the cat among the pigeons
How about delete the white circle and the puffin (or M & T or Winnebago), and just stick with the MacGregor Tartan bordered with the yellow (gold).
It then represents everything MacGregor and potentially Tattoo (assuming they adopt it).
It would then be the MacGregor House flag, and the Forums Pennant/Burgee
Traditionally a House Flag is either Square or Rectangular
A Pennant is a triangular shape
and a burgee is rectangular with a triangular notch out of the fly.
The correct length for a Pennant or Burgee for our boats is 15 inches and it flies at the mast head (although many fly it from the Starboard halyards).
There is a little leeway on size for house flag, but it should be smaller than the Ensign flown at the Stern. it is worn on the Starboard halyards.
The House flag would be worn according to MacGregor's/Tattoo's wishes
The Burgee would be worn by Admins/Admirals of the Forum
the Pennant would be worn by we mere mortal members of the Forum
All of that courtesy of Google, except for my bits (so of course it must be correct.
)
And I would agree, Kevin has been a great sport, in putting up with all our ideas
Thank you Kevin!!

Re: Any interest in a Mac burgee for your boat.
I intend on doing just that , once this major remodel is done and we are getting very close to that point.. Its been a lot of work for days short of a year and we are both ready to go boating etc. I am going to contact you " Kevin" and ask if there is a protocol for business cards I need to follow? I Thought I would hand out business cards with the sites address whenever I see a Macgregor...

Re: Any interest in a Mac burgee for your boat.
Hi all!
I've gone through all of the post in this thread a couple of times, and I understand Kevin's explanation about the Puffin, but I just don't like it. First, there is the Puffin class of boat, and second, if it takes this much explanation for this crew, then the meaning is too abstract. I thought the waterbago idea was funny.
I mean really funny. The burgee doesn't have to make sense to others, just us. The Puffin concept is just too off the wall. For what it's worth, that is my opinion.
If some version is communally accepted, a burgee signifying membership in this site would be nice to see flying from Mac's.
Thank you Kevin for pursuing this with such good nature. It may come to fruition yet?

OK got it. I'd read those comments, but thought they were supplementary information, not the source inspiration.kmclemore wrote:I've explained it several times in this thread, but here's some snippets that may help...DaveC426913 wrote:What exactly DOES the puffin represent?

Re: Any interest in a Mac burgee for your boat.
It is a certainty that we will all find ourselves at one time or another explaining the burgee to curious onlookers, and I''m trying to imagine what I could say about the puffin.
On the other hand, an explanation of the Waterbago symbol is as simple as "Come below and have a little stroll around!"

OK, am I sensing that I should add the Waterbago to the poll?
