Re: The new Tattoo
You guys are pointing out the obvious - we all know that "stays" are used to hold a mast. The things that are obvious to realize, I realize.
It's the things that are NOT obvious that I am fussy about. Many things I CAN realize even from the drawing that are not there:
I can see a good place for an ice chest under the companionway step.
The galley slides, as I mentioned above could be a back mounted "floating" galley.
I see a great place for permanent side hatches because of the way they main hatch way articulates.
I can see a folding companionway door with a screened hatch in the top part of it so you have an air screen when the hatch is up and a secure no holes companionway door when the hatch is down (more air when your inside)
The rudder bracket in the drawing eludes to the newer stronger aftermarket brackets that are offered for the X boat.
I see all kinds of good stuff possible too, but it's the stuff that does not add up that I am trying to envision a solution for. It's my nature to look at the negatives - that's what I do all day long for my work - find errors, mistakes, or things that don't fit.
The point of my post was not to qualify the merits of the design, the point of my post was to qualify the LACK of design. The point of my post was to make the case that I don't think they have a boat yet - I do not think there will be a 22 foot boat at the show. (Well, not THAT boat in the picture). And it's the boat in the picture that I want to see - I sort of like it but I want to see how they are going to pull off the details.

That's why you don't take prozac - you do not have an obsessive personality.
It's a curse, but it's also of some value to certain employers, in particular database managers and stock brokers. (I get a lot of offers from brokers to work in their offices but I can't move to the east coast and data analysts at brokerage houses do make good money but they don't make the REALLY good money like the brokers do so the money is not quite enough for the move either).
I lost a few friends I went to college with on 911. They were much brighter and more ambitious than me and good people too.
But, enough about the boring life of database admins, let's get back to SAILBOATS! WHERE IS THAT TATTOO 22 ??? I wanna SEE it! I don't believe it's real! Seeing is believing!!!

Re: The new Tattoo
We are planning on going again this year and taking lots of pics. The last few years we have went up on Thursday to try and minimize crowds, (not that it worked) this year I am thinking of trying Monday. Have heard that is the day to snag some last minute deals from the vendors before they head home....I am planning to go to the US Boat Show in Annapolis in October to see the new Tattoo and (hopefully) the new business owners. Perhaps some of us might arrange to meet for dinner?

Re: The new Tattoo
Hi, folks. I heard from Laura at Tattoo today. Obviously they've been as busy as one-armed paper hangers around their place, but here's a bit of what she told me:
So.. there you have it from the most accurate source. The 22 will not be at the [Annapolis] show as we are still focused on getting full production up and running on the 26. I had missed that the 22 still showed in the events section of our site.
We do plan to have flotation in the 22. As someone noted on the forum (you, perhaps) all the details aren't shown on the drawings we published.

Re: The new Tattoo
Yeah, I kinda figured they were not that far along on a 22 yet. There would have been less holes in the design if they were that close to a prototype to show it this week.
I have all the confidence in the world that they can indeed build a 22 footer, and I believe as they get closer to making one we will see a lot more details. I totally get it that they would be focusing on the production boat - (the 26) - because it's going to be a LOT easier to build the prototypes of the 22 with a full functioning production line in place.

Re: The new Tattoo
Boat, you're jumping to conclusions and making assumptions yet again. I have been in direct contact with the owners of Tattoo Yachts. There are not 'holes in the design' - I am quite satisfied that the 22 has a clear and well-thought-out design. And they also have not publically said how 'far along' they are in producing it, or if, indeed, they have a built prototype or not. You (and most folks) just haven't been allowed to see the detailed drawings, plans and timings. Remember that as with any business there are a lot of curious and active competitors out there and that Tattoo needs to keep their cards close to their chest prior to the launch of a new product. Knowing what I know of both the boat's plans and progress, I can assure at least most of you that you will be extremely pleased with the final product. At present, in order to satisfy current demand and start income moving again, the focus has been in getting 26's out the door ASAP. That's just good business sense, something the MacGregor family is, frankly, pretty dang good at. Patience please, for both the plans and launch of the new 22.

Okay, I am impatient and I want to see the boat - I will try to be more patient. I can't wait to see the boat - I don't want to wait, but what choice do I have.
You know those people that are like Apple freeks and they wait in line for two days for the latest iphone? That's like me when it comes to boats. I can't wait to see the latest 'thing'. I get all excited and I want to know.

Re: The new Tattoo
That makes total sense. There is a built in demand for the 26 and I bet a bunch of orders on hand. What a great position to be in as a startup to have income waiting for you.kmclemore wrote: At present, in order to satisfy current demand and start income moving again, the focus has been in getting 26's out the door ASAP.
That is exactly what I would do. Get some cash flow and then expand the product line.
So far, the changes to the 26 seem small but significant. I have high expectations for the new Tattoo.

Are you going to "camp out" in front of the door days before it opens?

Re: The new Tattoo
Yeah, and if I really really like it I am going to try to get some of my friends to buy it. I'm still on the fence - that 22 may have been the boat I would have bought if it was available at the time I bought the MAC and i want to see if it's as good as I think it might be.
I'm just curious to see if it is as good as I think it might be.
I don't want to wait any longer!

Re: The new Tattoo
I bought a used 26x in 1999, I hated that boat, extreme weather helm, ballast tank PITA. Steering failed, very slow compared to my 26 classic.. .
I sold the 1996 model and bought a new and improved 2000 26x.. I guess it pays to wait until they get the bugs out..
Annapolis boat show 2013.. So whose is going, ?? Maybe we can see our ole buddy R&L Richard Boren. I hear he is Vendor.. Selling water makers.. I`m sure he is now a Millionaire businessman , maybe he can take us out on his Mexican yacht and serve us dinner & drinks.. Sorry no liberals..??

Re: The new Tattoo
Well the new Tattoo 26 is at Southampton Boat show and very nice it is too. Apparently this is the first one in Europe. If you order one now you'll have to wait until May for delivery so production is obviously in full swing - perhaps this is why the 22 is behind schedule.

Re: The new Tattoo
I'm going to the Annapolis show on Saturday and I'd enjoy having dinner with other forum members on Saturday evening, if it if can be arranged. Also, it is *possible* (not likely, just 'possible') that I/we may be lucky enough to have dinner with the new owners of Tattoo... I've discussed it with Laura but it will really depend on their state of fatigue after having been 'on duty' all day and also on other business-related commitments they may have while there.
Perhaps we forum members/Mac owners should all wear something distinctive to allow us to recognize and greet each other while we are wandering around the show?
(Others recognizing me has never been a problem... I'm always the only white & blond haired, 6' tall guy with a large handle-bar mustache... but I may not recognize the rest of you!)
Perhaps we might wear a sticker of some sort? Years ago I made a Mac burgee using one of the MacGregor clan tartans with an "M" in a ball with a "Puffin" bird mascot (a black & white, plump, somewhat quirky yet surprisingly graceful Scottish waterfowl - seemed appropriate!
)... it was created as a bit of a joke, but it's certainly distinctive. The thought would be that we'd each print it out onto some sticky Avery-label material and wear it on our shirt/jacket/sweater to distinguish each other. I seriously doubt there will be similar stickers at the show...
