Washington DC Macgregor Sailors

Post by gcarmich »

My Macgregor and I have been in a wet slip at the Washington Sailing Marina on the Potomac for about 6 years. I have seen at least 5 other Macgregor in the marina and several more at local marinas. Does anyone know of a local Macgregor Sailors club, if not, is anyone interested in joining or forming one? It would be an opportunity to trade tips, tools, assistance, stories, and adventures about Macgregors in person.

Please post a response if you are interested.

Thanks,
Gilbert

I am a trailer sailor - live about midway between Washington and Baltimore. Usually spend time on the Chesapeake but would like to go to the Potomac (although I will be on the Potomac this weekend - at Point Lookout.
Keep me in the loop on what develops.

Watching for details to unfold. I'm in the Stafford, VA area and only get up to the DC area about twice a year, mostly under power with my Mac and on a tight schedule. Interesting idea at this stage...

I'm game... we store and trailer sail :macx: out of Leesylvania SP in Woodbridge. Great place to launch and sail with wide water once you get used to the crab pot floats and bass anglers :) :? :x  They run a nice little sailing school with rentals as well.

I am slipped in londontown md, but I have been down to the Potomac via indian head naval station. Nice enough ramp. Very quiet. Finger docks to tie up to. If you have access and are on the shore... Bolling AFB as well has a marina.

I dont enjoy trailering the boat around... Its kind of huge... But i plan on hitting the Potomac before the season ends.

I hear the coast guard/homeland "security" is ... On point... Down there.
Ive yet to see any official vehicle on the water up around south river/ severn river.

Trailer sailor in Fredericksburg. Plenty of time spent on the Potomac. Let me know if something develops.

Bit late to the party, but as a noobie 2001 26X owner in Woodbridge, Virginia, I am wondering if anything ever came of this notion of a Washington, D.C. Macgregor Sailors Group. Are there T-Shirts? Secret handshakes? Seriously though, I might be PMing a couple-few of you directly, just to ask if I might swing by for a looksee at YOUR :macx:. I could really use some working frame of reference to get my own together right.

I'm up for it. I keep my :macx: in a slip at Aquia bay marina near Stafford. Have been there for a few years.
I'm always looking for someone to join me for a sail! Anybody up for it Friday if weather is decent ? My day off.

Interested in where you keep your boat as I am considering something closer to home (haymarket). Do you run into any low clearance bridges on way out to Potomac? If so do you raise mast on the fly?

I'm at Captain John S Beach Marina (two other Macs at the same marina). Nice family owned marina. There are no bridges downstream to the Potomac and all the bridges upstream to the town of Occoquan have more than enough clearance for our masts :)

I live in the historic town of Occoquan, but my boat is in the fort belvoir marina. The picture on the D.C. Macgregor's Facebook page is a shot i took from my helicopter of the marina

I am ready to meet up any weekend, even if it is only a few of us at first!
