Single Line reefing
So I actually reefed the main sail this weekend with a single line system and it worked great beam, broad reach and running in 20 knt sustained gusting to just under 30knt. Good Shape, tight on the outhaul and the usually useless jam cleat didn't let the line go. Lost another (and last one I had on board) slug gate, so I'll have to put in an order.

Re: Single Line reefing
Sounds like a lot of fun. I really really enjoy high wind.
I use these for my slug gate:

Just drilled a hole just above the slug entry on the mast. 4 Years now - nary an issue and the price is right when lost.
Ghetto I know.
Happy (reefed) Sails.

Hey yukonbob,
Peace of mind trick I learned was to:
Add another short line around the reefed clew cringle and the boom.
If the single jiffy line lets go, the second line around the boom and clew will save your sail from ripping out the reefs (assuming you put reefs ties in)

That's a great idea. I've never bothered to reef though. I'd rather just let the boat heel more, get more speed and swear more. But the boat definitely handles better in higher winds with less sail. Probably could have gone to the second point but ill save that for next time. Ye's to ties btw. I can't imagine not. It would be a total mess without
