gas jugs
I think I ll be going down the the maqueses keys for a few weeks. I would like to not have to refuel in keywest.
I thought about buying two or three of those reliant plastic water jugs for the outbound leg, if it looks like I might be motoring in light early summer winds. Is this idea too dangerous?

Re: gas jugs
On long trips I use the ventless plastic jerry cans. They seal very tight and no gas smell. In the heat you may have to vent for expansion. I wouldn't use water jugs as they are not rated for gas and may deteriorate quickly.

Re: gas jugs
The new gas tanks are required to sustain 5 psi (from reading the labels in WM the other day), and are 'ventless'. They would also be of a chemistry that is safe for both gasoline, and alcohol.
I would just buy additional fuel tanks, and outfit them with the appropriate quick-disconnect fitting for your fuel line. Swap tanks as needed.
While I'm the first to try all sorts of unorthodox stuff, even dangerous stuff sometimes, I would not mess with gasoline. I did when I was a kid, and I can say with great certainty that burning gasoline on your skin is not something you want to experience. I can still smell it, 45 years later. A gasoline fire on a boat, even less so.

Nice mustache. Otto von Bismarck, I presume?tkanzler wrote:
Given we're talking about potentially exploding gas tanks here, you may more appropriately have, ahem, 'pointed' to this guy instead...
(with, IMHO, an even better mustache)

I would have guessed Hindenburg, from the clues you dropped, but the quote shows it to be so, so no guessing, I guess.kmclemore wrote:Given we're talking about potentially exploding gas tanks here, you may more appropriately have pointed to this guy instead...
But what carnage has your mustache wreaked on the world? That's some pretty strong company you keep, after all.

Re: gas jugs
I updated the photo, but both are Hindenburg.
As to what damage my mustache has wrought, I offer the final lines in this short scene...
