Working on the boat on this rainy day. One of the things I wanted to get done was to start the motor. I've had this boat for 1 year, and the only time the motor has been run was at the dealer on their gas tank. It's been setting ever since.
Well, I went up and filled the gas tank and returned back to my shop, put on the water ears and tried to start her up. No go. A couple of sputters and then nothing.
Seems to me like it's not getting fuel. I read thru the manual again and then checked my fuel line and bulb. The manual says the arrow should point to the outboard. Mine points to the fuel tank. Does that really matter? When I pump the bulb, it sounds like a little air blows out the fitting at the tank. Doesn't feel like it gets very firm to me. I tried removing the line from the outboard to see if I could get any fuel to spray out - nothing - maybe a couple drops, that's it.
The line looks like the dealer cut the end off and put another tank fitting on it in. It has one of those brass two prong things on the tank.
I bought a replacement bulb at Wally World and some clamps. My thought is to cut off the old bulb and put in this new one in the correct direction and see if that works.
Any other suggestions?

Sounds like the bulb to me. I think it has one way valves in side them to make them work when you pump it. Turn it around.

Yes, the Arrow should be pointing away from the fuel tank towards the motor. When you squeeze the bulb it should get primed with fuel and get harder to squeeze. Or get a tool and push in the ball at the end of fuel line on the connector plug and at the same time squeeze the bulb and you should see fuel come out of the line.

It's really disappointing all the shoddy things I'm discovering on my boat bought from Boating Atlanta. These guys just slapped it together and shoved me out the door. I have quite a list now of things I have to redo. Live and learn I guess. I'll know better on my next boat.

Well I got her started, but it wasn't easy. Came up with several creative new curse words for my dealer.
I took the fuel line apart and installed the new bulb. Still nothing. So I took everything apart again and put it back together. Still nothing. Then I thought I would try the other tank - maybe the siphon in my port tank is bad. So I pump 6 gallons into the other tank, hook up the fuel line and pump it up. To my amazement the bulb gets firm. Try the motor and she fires right up.
So I look closer at these tanks. They are both Moeller tanks, but they are slightly different. One is about an inch taller than the other. The seat doesn't quite fit flush and is resting on it. The fittings are definitely different. Come to find out, the port tank had Mercury fitting on it, the starboard had the Yamaha fitting. So off to Wally World again to get the correct fitting.
So problem solved. Ran the motor for a good half hour. While that was going on, I filled my new Yamaha generator (1000w) with oil, and fuel and started that up and ran it in. So I'm getting there. I have some re-wiring to do in some of my compartments, load up my gear and I'm ready for the lake.
