Best place to mount Tachometer
Could anyone suggest where the best location in the pedestal to mount a tachometer on a 26X would be? I would like to mount it where it would not interfere with an autopilot, should I install one at a later time.
Thanks
Thanks

Okay...
Why does it have to be on the pedestal? Mine is to the port/left of the cabin door.
Why do you need one? Worried about exceeding the speed limit?

Regarding another post on chart plotters…I think if I were doing it all over I would forego the ped mounted tach and wire the engine into the chart plotter and have it digital with all the other goodies that setup would offer.

I don't have a chart plotter, so I wasn't aware that they were able to display engine RPM. I have been looking to get a chart plotter, so I will have to look into what models have this feature. Any suggestions ?

Do some googling. Some Chart Plotter and Some motors can exchange data. Not all motors not all chartplotters.
The engine interface is pretty cool for those that share. Realtime fuel consumption, RPMs, temps etc.

All current model chart-plotters can take NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0138 inputs. There are a number of different NMEA 2000 senders for various older engines--google your specific engine to determine exactly what it's going to take to connect it. There are senders that can convert the actual analog gauge outputs and convert that to NMEA 2000 worst case scenario.

Re: Best place to mount Tachometer
Ditto on the Chartplotter (or its equivalent). My Suzuki tach is NMEA 2000 digital and displays all sorts of stuff, though I'm waiting for my big screen (eyesight) display to happen sometime soon.
Dedicated tachs are a kickback to our fondly remembered muscle car days - but I will say this in favor of whatever type you go with: as far as the expensive outboard is concerned, it's almost the most important instrument to observe.
The extra eye candy is good too!
