Post by bbenkert26x »

Well we did our 1st over night at Cayo Costa in Peligun Bay, had a blast, but it was like sleeping on 2x4's on the bow cushions, any recommendations?? :|

Thanks,

Capt. B.

Air mattress. Deflates nice and small, and many come with blowers that will run on 12VDC.

I added a 2" memory foam matress cover for a king bed along with a down comforter on top of that and it made a world of difference

We also added 2" "memory foam" cut to shape for the "V" berth. Spent 7 days on Norris Lake TN. last July and, while it wasn't home, it was not bad at all. I did build an extension for the port side to bring the bed 'deck' even with the forward starboard settee seat. A nice little mod picked-up from this site, gotta love this place.

Given its a 26X...ie got some years on it...replace foam in cushions with a high quality high density foam...factory original was not high quality to start with and the stuff loses its springiness and then a memory foam overlay has got us sleeping like babies

Because we are talking :macx: layout here … what V-shape have you all cut the memory foam to? Long or Short?

Assuming that most of us remove the starboard seat backrest at night, and then infill the port side to be the same length for sleeping.
Do you have 2 pieces of foam?
- one for the day that just covers the bow end of the V-Birth. (original blue cushion covers)
- and then an extra piece the covers the aft section of the V-Birth for sleeping. (forward starboard seat and port infill)

One of the good things about an overlay...holds the 4 cushions together...no more gaps. We took a queen sized overlay and cut it down...some wastage but effective

Our memory foam was a little short at the bow end, really not a problem. I made a new seat back that fits the profile of the opening on the port side, put holes in and reinforced the face of the V berth to put the seat back pipes. On the "back" side of the seat back I placed a sliding door latch and the catch installed in the side of the rear settee (with reinforcement) to support the starboard aft end of the extension, the cushion of the port side bench supports the rest. We velcro-ed the original back cushion to the new back. Worked very well so far.

Great that you went to my back country cruiseing grounds, I do Cayo Costa 3-5 times a year for a 3-5 day stay.
Change your foam to High Desity thru (Foam Factory) 3inches thick, Than add a 1 inch Camper foam with vinyl backing.
I tried Campers queen inflatables, 2inch memory foam, closed cell foam and the above works as you don't bottom out.
It's still a little stiff but you know whats best, add the 2 inch memory foam on top for a more softer deeper sleep.
I just bought 1 inch closed cell foam and will put it as a base on fiberglass than the 3 inch chusion than the camper pad.
Lights out for me. :)
I am also redoing my cocpit seat covers and backrests with Sunbrella, also interior Chusions,
MacX only has 3 inch foam were the M has 5 inches.
1inch of closed cell and 2 inches of high desity foam is whats needed for seating below.
I just got dilivered 1 inch sheet of 4ftx8 ft of closed cell foam,I was planning for useing this on cockpit chusions and used 1-1/2 thick cockpit on my CP19 and tho they were stiff ,it was a good comfort. Going to try it out on the Mac. with Sunbrella as storage is much easier and comfort is much better than the 3 inch open cell foam.
