I had my filter in for close to 3 years and the canister was beginning to rust and the valve in the clear plastic view area was starting to leak so it was time to replace it anyway. I replaced it with the one piece model (no clear plastic area below to leak) so I expect this next model to last a bit longer. That is probably about long enough for a filter anyway and the amount of water it had collected in 3 years was manageable...ie, all easily contained within the filter so if that same pattern happens again, I'll replace the filter well before the water needs to be dumped out.
