Did a 3 week adventure Charlotte Harbor/Bay Florida Jan 2013. Recommend Laishley Marina in Punta Gorda. http://www.laishleymarina.com/ Go have a cheesburger in paradise at 26.4N 82.13W, immediately at marker 60 on intercoastal. And WOW for Cayo Costa!!!!!! http://www.floridastateparks.org/cayocosta/

Did you get a slip at Laishley or just put in there? I was wondering about long term parking there? We anchored one night near there at Punta Gorda with the Mac.

For someone staying 3-4 weeks or more All American Covered Boat Storage is an option on the other side of Charlotte Harbor. They were about $75 a month when we used them to put in the Mac. You can't stay there as they are about 8 miles inland on a fresh water canal system. That is nice as it flushes the salt water off the boat and from the outboard when you return.

Another option as to a place where you can leave a vehicle for any length of time is Eldred's Marina in Placida, FL just down the road from All American Covered Boat Storage. That is a good location if you are only putting in for a few days as you are very close to Cayo Costa from that ramp and the Gulf if you want to go out.

If you are taking a Mac to Florida Charlotte Harbor is a good destination as you have a lot of fairly protected water inside Charlotte Harbor itself or can go up or down the west coast from there either inside on the ICW or outside in the Gulf. We liked it enough that we decided for now to keep the Endeavour there. There is quite a bit more about the area in out trip reports below,

Free public lot. I left the suv and trailer there days at a time. But not the whole time. Visited family close by.
Free parking reserved/specific for slip renters.
Free bike use. Nice day room/showers/etc free for slip renters.

Short walk to hospital and catholic church and restaurants.

Smiles broad and free too. I'm keeping mine :)
