track mounted swivel cam cleats

I just received a pair a couple of weeks ago...if I can figure out how to upload a photo, I'll do that. I can also email the pics to you BOAT, if you wish.

Put the pic where you can find it easily, then go to http://www.tinypic.com. Click 'choose file', select the pic and click 'open' (assuming yours works the same as mine with Win7), click the big green 'Upload Now!' button, enter what it asks you for, click 'Upload Now!' again, then highlight and copy the second line down which has the ubb code on each end already. Paste it directly into your post (don't add more ubb code, the [img/img] parts) and hit preview before posting, to make sure it looks like what you want it to look like.

At some point you might want to establish an account at photobucket or other pic hosting site, but for a quick upload to the forum, tinypic is about as quick (and anonymous) as it gets.

Click the 'quote' button on this post to see what the pic below looks like with the url and ubb code on each end. It's hosted on tinypic, as you can see in the url. The forum posts a large thumbnail, and when you click on it, you get it full-sized, though I think it scales large pics down to some maximum size automatically. If you want to scale it down yourself, tinypic gives you the option on the screen where you pick the pic, which you do before you upload it, of course.

So does that swivel? It looks like they are set for a permenant angle - (that would be the starboard side?)

They are fixed at this angle and the one in the photo is the starboard side. Perhaps in my haste to take and post pics, I should have taken better pics.

Swivelling may provide a degree of greater flexibility/ease but could be less strong? Not sure really.

Great pictures... I'm saving my pennies to order me a set. I really should have got them for myself for christmas, but I thought I would put them on my christmas wish list in hopes that admiral would surprise me . Yup I was surprised all right - I did not get them

I have yet to use them and would like to know if adding a second set of genoa tracks would be the better way to use these. I also want to get a bimini at some point and figure I could install it on the bimini mounts that slide in the tracks as well.

They all mount on the same track. I used them on Rogers boat.

The swivel cleats to the rear, the pully's in the middle, and the bimini track car in the front. It makes for a pretty crowded track but it works. You need to slide the pully back and forth between the cars on the ends when you reef the genoa - (set the genoa pully forward when reefed and to the rear when not and somewhere in between when in between).

I think the tracks are further forward on the which may require adding a second set of tracks further aft for the cleats and a bimini to work. I'd have to go out and check on my boat, but it's way too cold out right now.

Yeah, That is one of the next winter projects I have on the to do list, possibly this weekend. The normal X bimin location is about a foot behind the tracks. I picked up two 8' sections of schaffer T track but have been debating if I really want to go through the hassle of removing the original track and mounting new track along the entire length of the cockpit or not. Getting to that area on the X requires pulling the foam out from the small access area in the rear berth and reaching way up and back.

Interesting, I hadn't considered taking out what's there and adding an entirely new strip. I wonder if there would be enough of a benefit for the extra work. Probably, but there's a chance I would screw that up somehow. I guess I'm still at the point in my mind where I am reluctant to take things off the boat that work as they are supposed to and replace them with things that I think might be better.

That, and there's a good chance I'm lazy

Hmmm. In the pix it looks like you need to use a (Phillips) screw driver each time you want to reposition the cleat. But can that be? They need to be easily movable for sail tuning, and for easy boarding. The forces experienced by this unit from the sheets at the rails would be less than with the factory sheave configuration (by about half, actually, not considering shear, and angle), so it needn’t be any stronger than it.

I believe I’ve seen these with a sprung pin (like the factory unit) that facilitates rapid position changes, but it looks tight in there for space, and it would make for a more vertical profile.

Part of the reason I have not been more aggressive in buying is because I like to see exactly what it is first. I might have ended up disappointed had I purchased and ended up with these? Or not. Please someone tell me I am all wet about this. Bill? Anyone? Maybe, in practice, it's not necessary to reposition it much, so this is a good compromise?

The Garhauer units are threaded down as well. Anything larger, like a release knob might interfere with line travel. So it looks like two different configurations – Bill’s might be more suited for our Macs? Or apples and oranges.
