Sailing my new Mac in Hawaii
Hi guys! I will be picking up my 2013 from the shipping company on the 13 of Jan! Super excited! We will take many trips on "The Airbender." I have a four yr old and a six yr old. I plan on getting a bunch of pennies and painting them gold. Then I plan on burying them in a small chest on other islands here. Then I will make a need looking treasure map. They will be so excited. I will lead them to the next island by finding one or two coins on each island until "jackpot"! I will have lots of videos and pictures.

I just love that idea, and plan to steal and modify it a bit for my Junior Sea Cadets. I'm sure we can build a bit of learning in there somewhere..
Best wishes

Great idea and congrats.

What islands do you plan to sail to? Would you ever consider doing the crossing to Kauai? I'm so excited for you and your kids....enjoy every moment of it. Wish I was enjoying some of your warmer weather about now.

That’s going to be a lot of fun. For the kids, too
. Do you Geocache? Will you be planting the treasure ahead of time by “chopper”?

Re: Sailing my new Mac in Hawaii
That sounds like a lot of fun. We were out in the Islands back in November, visiting from the UK and had a great time, wished we had the Mac with us some of the time, but that crossing from Kauai was pretty bad, even on the regular ferry. We started out sitting on the upper deck in the open air, but after a couple of facefuls of salt water, we soon went down below. It was a pretty uncomfortable trip, and not one I would like to do in the Mac, but never say never, you might enjoy it!
What a great idea to do a treasure map and go hunting for gold coins.
Where are you sailing out of? Honolulu?

Re: Sailing my new Mac in Hawaii
Smaller sailboat cross at night here in Hawaii. The wind and waves are better for it. It also allows you to arrive in the morning so you will have light when you enter into a harbor or mooreing.
I have not done any geocacheing. Maybe in the future i will just for those sailing around the world with their kids.
I am a little nervous not knowing how to set up the Mac the first time i go out in it. I will have a few friends though on the first couple of times help me. Maybe the dress code will require them to wear speedos, eye patch, and a Spanish Conquistador hats. This way i can limit the crew to only those who are bold and dareing! lol
There should be a lot more videos on youtube that show the set up process.

Cannon's aren't standard? I'm about to add a second making Galactica a two gun sloop. The Admiral is authorizing a smaller 10 gauge sunset salute cannon...something about me being a pyro with the 25mm black powder cannon....

Re: Sailing my new Mac in Hawaii
Aloha! - nice to see another
(in the water) here. Looks like you got out on a good day. Harder to come by in the winter. Looks like you sailed out of Ala Wai, right? I used to keep mine in a storage lot, then put in at Wainae Boat Harbor. Low swells, but I got tired of raising and lower all the time (roller fuller, lines aft, etc.). Now I keep mine in a dry slip right next to ramp at Kaneohe. Great inside bay, but swells are a little higher on the windward side. Also, plenty places to run aground in the bay (done it twice already).
Be sure to post if you ever make it to Molokai. I'm still working up the nerves, and waiting for summer again.
