Planning San Juan islands trips
I'm at the beginning stages of planning at least two trips of a week or more each in the San Juans this summer. I have not set the dates yet. If anyone is interested or has any events going on in the area this summer, just let me know. I spent 21 days last year sailing the islands and Canada, it was an absolute blast!! I see BWY rendesvous but I'm already sailing elsewhere that week.

The Admiral and I would be happy to join you on a trip, or two. Have to see how our summer goes next year; this year was a disaster: No time for sailing, flying, horses and bad rotator cuffs put the kibosh on golf. Keep us posted.

Re: Planning San Juan islands trips
Check the MacGregor Yacht club of BC website for their calendar of events. They meet up in Blaine WA early in the year and they raft up at Sucia Island later in the summer. They also have a weekend rendezvous in Ganges on Salt Spring Island. Lots of opportunities to meet and race other Macs.
Maybe I'll see you on the water next summer.

HamminX, I know how you feel....life has been crazy for me too. I barely flew last summer so that I could do more sailing (an I own two airplanes!!)....Wispyjack, I looked at their calendar for summer 2013 and didn't really see much posted yet. I really look forward to this trip again this year and am just ready to start planning now

Re: Planning San Juan islands trips
I would be interested in meeting up for a San Juan cruise, we get up there a couple times every summer. I am planning on keeping our
at Cap Sante in Anacortes this coming summer to have more frequent weekend access the the Islands.
Keep us posted on your schedule.

Will do Metronome....the more the better. It's a great trip!! Let me know how you feel about leaving a vehicle at Anacortes for 9 days (is it safe? Is there a place if I launch there?). I have been leaving out of Bellingham but only because we have friends that keep their boat there and joined us on the last couple of trips....I'm not opposed to launching out of Anacortes like I have many times, but only for single day trips.

My family includes a 6-year old son...anybody else in this string have kids? Lots of great places for kids to explore up there.
Before we got the Mac this summer, we belonged to the NW Potter group, and had some fun club cruises. I never went on their San Juan trips though. We've been up there on charter boats, but never our own.

Hello dive4it. Washington Park is safe and a good launch, they want $8 a day for parking. Cornet Bay is a good launch as well, $10 day parking there. There is a launch under the Rt 20 bridge over the Swinomish Channel, not sure about current overnight parking cost, plenty of parking though.

I believe we met this past summer in Friday Harbor.
We were a couple of slips down from you in our 2000-X called Windchime, with all black canvas and full enclosure, and double headsils. We had a nice chat about both our mods.
Anyway, I am the Commodore for the MacGregor Yacht Club of BC, and to let you know we have not posted our 2013 schedule yet.
Our AGM is this weekend and this is when we decide on dates for coming years events, but the dates are usualy on the same weekends every year.
We always have 5 Club Cruises, plus Members and Confidence Cruises. We had a total of 18 events in 2012 including; Cruises, Club Nights, BBQ, Dinner and Awards Night, etc.
Our on the water season starts in May with a Regatta in Blaine, and ends in September with a Raft-Up at Sucia. Other Cruises are to the Gulf Islands and Howe Sound.
We'll have the 2013 dates posted shortly, so keep checking.
Or better yet ... join the Club for only $25 per year, and get the advantages of being a club member and fully enjoy all the things that the MacGregor Lyfstyle has to offer as a group.

Would love to tie in with you and buddy boat for a spell. I have gone from Olympia to Desolation Sound each summer for the past 11 hope years. Please post your dates when they are finalized.

Re: Planning San Juan islands trips
Wow, this is going to be a fun summer!! Yes Darry, that was me that met up with you this last summer at Friday Harbor....sorry about all the drool on your canvas, I would love to have a setup like yours (especially for winter sailing). I really enjoyed meeting up with you and Cool change that day. We ended up doing another 10 day trip a couple of weeks later, different stops and routing (that's when we drifted into the middle of the Orca pod, photos on the "photos taken from your mac" thread). We are all so lucky to have such a sailing wonderland in our area like the San Jauns and Gulf islands. I will post the dates for my 2013 trips and I'll keep checking your club calendar....and yes, I'd like to join the club as well.

Re: Planning San Juan islands trips
Well, the ink is still drying but it looks like the inked dates for at least one of my San Juans trips will be July 19th. through the 28th. most likely with a night or two spent at Victoria. I'll post a proposed itinerary if anyone would like to meet up or join me on any of the trip with their boat.

We should be able to join you some during that week. Think about Cypress Island if you haven't been there yet, great place, one of our favorites.

Re: Planning San Juan islands trips
Yes Paul, Cypress was one of our overnights this last summer. I ended up hiking all over the island including the raptor cliffs, homestead cabin on the lake, smuggler's cove, etc. When I got back to where I left my dingy, it was gone....the tide had come in and it floated off even though I had it tied off. Luckily our friends from another boat had seen it and kayaked my butt out to it to motor it back. Beautiful island, one of the highlights of the trip!! We'd love to have you join us in our cruise this next summer.
