I have a 2008 26 M and was wondering where the best location is to secure the puck for a Hawkeye depth sounder. Also best method of securing the puck...Cheers, John

Re: Hawkeye depth Sounder puck location
We just discussed this in another thread last week , but you might have missed that thread..
Conclusion.... The Biggest and Most Important Issue is NO BUBBLES between your sender and the boat hull. Some use silicon adhesive, some ( like me ) use Epoxie, for me, Marine Tex.. Others have actually epoxied a short piece of PVC pipe and dropped the puck in and added a couple inches of Mineral oil.. ALL work..

I located the puck on the port side, about 1 ft forward of the galley. Make sure the fiberglass is smooth with no air bubbles. I used GE Silicone II sealant.

I think Silicon is an Excellent idea..
Mine I think was over kill.. We used a shop vac and a DA and ground the location smooth etc etc.. Over Kill IMHO but that is how my brother does EVERYTHING and he..... was helping me install a lot stuff on my boat..I located mine? Port side across from the head..For ME thats a storage area for things that are seldom used but nice to have aboard..

Yes, the silicone worked out pretty good. It made a good seal, but is flexible enough that I don't have to worry about it cracking. I was going to mount the transducer across from the head, but was worried that it might not work so well when powering at WOT.Divecoz wrote:I think Silicon is an Excellent idea..Mine I think was over kill.. Re: Hawkeye depth Sounder puck location
There is to much underwater turbalance for our boats for truly acuarate depth useing a in hull transducer.
I have tried PVC with Oil, silicon, 3m4200, and makes no diffrence.
They all work well in normal conditions but if there is a strong current, boat waves, cross current . It will effect your soundings.
Best location for a M is forward of Dagerboard (problem is on high speed it won't work) .
The MacX has a long centerboard trunk that disrups soundings on current and large boat passage.
We really don't have to be concerned with small interuptions and after you are out of it readings should be close to normal. I never relye on depth gauges.
Auto kick up rudders let me know how deep I am in.
