M19 Swing Keel Swings Free
M19 Swing Keel Swings Free
Has any one had to repair this condition ?? Just picked up this 1993 Powersailor to rehab. I was testing release mechanism for keel and realized there wasn't a load on it. Into the water I went and discovered the keel swinging free. For this season I may be able to just use it in the down position being careful as I take it off the trailer but plan to fully repair once safely in pole barn for the winter. Owners manual sketch makes it look like I have to remove the two inside access ports (sealed with 3M 5200) and then reseal them; not a fun task as 5200 is very unforgiving. Any tips from anyone who has experienced this issue would be greatly appreciated !!! Thanks !!

I've done mine twice, the first time I thought I could do it from underneath but gave up and opened the access ports pulled the bolt and dropped the board, way easier. Mark the access ports with a pencil or marker across one of the screws, the plate and where it lines up on the sole(floor) as the holes don't match all the way around. Be careful prying the plates up. Pull the bolt, replace the cable, replace the rubber washers. You will need help to lift the board and slide the bolt back in. Use 4200 as it's more a sealant where 5200 is a glue. Take your time and good luck.

Doug,
Thanks for reply !! When I pulled boat after sea trial I discovered cable must have been pinched off somwhere. Visual inspection from below shows all connections complete and with help from above I was able to toggle cable from loose to taut and all seems OK. You're right about 5200, I use it bed thru hulls and on little boats to reseal deck to hull separations and it does take a full 7 days to cure.
